It continues to escalate, fueled by repeated leaks, and I have no interest in submitting to a public inquiry that has already caused far more damage than I am willing to accept. Rather than allowing this to continue, I have decided to step aside now — before my current contract expires on June 30. I do so not because I accept the narrative that has been constructed around this episode, but because I refuse to lend it further oxygen or to let it define me or my career."

Washtenaw County District Court Judge Cedric Simpson said he was moved by the support of Kelli Moore, Sherrone's wife, and ordered Moore to serve 18 months of probation.

"In my opinion, the person, quite frankly Mr. Moore, that is saving you from the full wrath of this court is the one you betrayed," Simpson told Moore with his wife seated nearby in the front row. "I don't know where your wife Kelli finds her strength."

Last month, Moore, 40, pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors, malicious use of a telecommunications device in the context of a domestic relationship and trespassing.
Prosecutors dropped charges for felony home invasion, misdemeanor stalking, and misdemeanor breaking and entering.
