"The Trick Shot King" 👑🎾
Did we just witness the play of the year? 🤯🧪
Christian Alshon and Hayden Patriquin aren't just playing pickleball; they're playing 4D chess on the court. Watch this insane sequence from the Carvana PPA Mesa Cup:
A desperate "between-the-legs" reset... 🍑
A "behind-the-back" counter-attack... 🔙
The absolute roar from the crowd! 🗣️⚡
This is exactly why the PPA Tour is the most exciting show in sports right now. You can't teach this level of instinct!
Which shot was more impressive: the tweener or the behind-the-back? Let us know in the comments! 👇
🧬 The Anatomy of Elite Pickleball
It’s easy to focus on the flashy trick shots, but look at the fundamentals that make this point possible:
The Reset: Handling high-speed drives with soft hands to stay in the point.
Recovery Speed: Closing the gap instantly after a defensive save.
Improvisation: Using "behind-the-back" and "between-the-legs" maneuvers when traditional shots aren't an option.
The pros show us that in pickleball, you’re never out of the point until the ball bounces twice. 🎾💪
The Art of the Reset. 📐🎾
In this high-speed rally, notice how the players handle the aggressive drives. Instead of trying to overpower a difficult ball, they use "soft hands" to drop the ball back into the kitchen, neutralizing the attack and eventually winning the point.
Takeaway for your game: When you're under pressure, focus on the "reset" d**k rather than a high-risk counter-attack. Patience wins points!
Want to win more points at the kitchen? Stop hitting everything back to the middle. 🚫
In this clip, Ben Johns and Anna Leigh Waters demonstrate the power of The Short Angle. By finding the sideline instead of the baseline, they force their opponents to move laterally and open up the entire court.
Key Takeaway: When you have a soft ball at the net, don't just "d**k" it. Look for the angle!

As of Feb 17, 2026, here’s the lineup of long‑lasting grit technologies making waves in pickleball:
Selkirk Infinigrit
SixZero Diamond Tough
Spartus Permagrit
11SIX24 Hexgrit
Chorus Harmony Grit
Honolulu Crystal Blue Endurance (just added!)
Great to see brands pushing durability forward. But heads up: if you recently bought Honolulu’s J6/J2CR series, you may want to ask about compensation — some players haven’t even received their pre‑orders before the new grit tech was announced.
This shows how fast innovation cycles are accelerating in pickleball gear:
Durability is the new battleground — grit tech is becoming a differentiator.
Customer trust matters — early buyers risk feeling left behind when updates drop too quickly.
Market signal — expect more brands to follow with proprietary grit systems.
👉 The question isn’t if grit tech becomes standard, but which brand sets the benchmark.

At my 3.5–3.99 rec sessions, I regularly play with two lefties. When we’re getting beat down the middle, I’ve asked if they’d stack with me — both said no. I didn’t push, but it got me thinking…
👉 Lefties: Do you ever stack with a righty outside of tournaments or DUPR? If not, why — working on backhands, comfort, or just preference? If yes, do you ask first, and do you stack on serve only or both serve/receive?
👉 Righties & ambidextrous players: At your level, are people aware of stacking and comfortable with it?

Pickleball "Dad Jokes".
A man is walking home and sees a funeral procession with a huge line of people carrying pickleball paddles. He stops the guy at the end and asks, "Wow, was the deceased a famous pro player?" The guy responds, "No, he was just a regular guy. But his wife told him if he went to play pickleball one more time, she’d kill him." The man asks, "So... what happened?" The guy whispers, "I'm not sure, I'm just waiting in line to borrow his paddle."

The 2026 USA Pickleball Rulebook officially went into effect on January 1, 2026. While there aren't massive "game-breaking" changes, there are several strict updates—particularly regarding scoring and serving—that you need to know for your next match.
1. The Death of the "Freeze" (Rally Scoring)
If you play in leagues or tournaments that use rally scoring, the most significant change is to Rule 4.B.
The New Rule: A point is now awarded on every single rally, including the game-winning point.
What Changed: Previously, many rally-scoring formats required a "freeze," where the leading team could only win the match while they were the serving team. Now, either the serving or receiving team can score the game-winning point. This prevents long "stalls" at the end of matches.
2. Higher Standards for a "Clearly" Legal Serve
The word "clearly" has been added to the requirements for a volley serve (Rule 7.C).
The Three Checks: The upward arc, the paddle head being below the wrist, and the contact point being below the waist must now all be clearly visible to the official.
The Consequence: Referees are now instructed that if a serve is "borderline" or too close to call, it is a fault, not a "let" or a warning. In non-officiated play, this is intended to discourage players from pushing the limits of the waist-height rule.
3. "Prompt" Line Calls (Rule 8.F.3)
USA Pickleball has tightened the timing for calling a ball out to prevent gamesmanship.
The Rule: If you return a ball, your "out" call must be made before the opponent hits the ball back or before the ball becomes dead.
The Impact: You can no longer wait to see if your own shot is going to be good before deciding to call the previous ball "out." If there is any delay, the ball is considered "in."
4. Tightened Rules on "Extra Balls"
Automatic Fault: If a second ball falls out of your pocket or is visible to an opponent during a rally, it is now an immediate fault on you. Previously, this was sometimes treated as a "distraction" or a replay; now, the penalty is a lost rally.
5. Expanded Adaptive Standing Division (Section 25)
In a major move for inclusivity, a formal division has been added for players with mobility impairments.
The Two-Bounce Rule: Eligible adaptive players are now permitted to let the ball bounce twice before returning it (similar to the wheelchair rule).
Hybrid Play: In doubles, if only one player is an adaptive athlete, the two-bounce rule applies only to them, not their partner.
6. Sportsmanship & Pre-Match Authority
Warm-up Fouls: Referees now have the authority to issue verbal warnings or technical fouls before the match starts (during the warm-up or briefing) if players engage in aggressive behavior or "gamesmanship."
Ejections: Tournament directors now have explicit authority to eject players for "paddle abuse" (smashing a paddle) or "ball abuse" that causes damage to the venue or risks injury to others.
Summary Table for Quick Reference | Feature | 2025 Rule | 2026 Rule | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | Rally Scoring Game Point | Must win on serve (Freeze) | Either team can win the point | | Serve Legality | "Gray area" allowed | Must be clearly legal | | Line Call Timing | "Prompt" (vague) | Must be before opponent returns it | | Extra Ball in Pocket | Often a "let" or replay | Immediate fault |
