It's Oct. 1st and it is the LAST day of swim lessons here at Aqua Elite Swimstitute! This is bittersweet for me. It has been an amazing swim season. Meeting so many new families and seeing so much success for so many new and previous swimmers. But it is time for me to move on to my Heritage swim family now. And rest! lol. I worked with nearly 100 students since March 31st and had nearly 1000 swim lesson sessions! Yes, it is time for a bit of rest. But I can't wait to see you all again in Spring 2027. 💕🏊🏻 Coach K

Stormy afternoons at the pool stink! But when the lights turn red on the pump house, it's time to be safe and get out of the pool. The Aqua Elite lightning alert system indicates red when the lightning is 10 miles or less away! Too close!

🌎💙 Tomorrow is World Drowning Prevention Day 💙🌎

Drowning is fast, silent, and preventable.

Every year, thousands of lives are lost to drowning, yet many of these tragedies can be prevented through education, preparation, and layers of protection.

At Aqua Elite Swimstitute, we believe that learning to swim is one of the greatest gifts you can give your child—but swim lessons are only one layer of water safety.

As you enjoy the water this summer, remember these simple but lifesaving reminders:

💦 Always provide close, constant, and capable supervision. Stay within arm's reach of young children and avoid distractions like phones.

🏊 Build water competency. Swimming lessons help children develop confidence and important lifesaving skills.

🦺 Wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket when boating or whenever appropriate around open water.

🚪 Use layers of protection including pool fences, self-latching gates, alarms, and locked access to pools.

❤️ Be prepared. Learn CPR and know what to do in an emergency. Every second matters.

Tomorrow, let's all take a moment to raise awareness and commit to making our homes, pools, lakes, rivers, and beaches safer for everyone.

I spend A LOT of time undoing "the floatie position" during lessons. Are they a necessary aid in the lives of little ones, YES! But please read this article and see why they should not be used ALL the time. It is a great perspective for parents.

As a swim instructor, I have the life jacket conversation with all my families. While we don't use flotation devices during lessons because our goal is to develop true water competency and swimming skills, a properly fitted Coast Guard-approved life jacket is still an essential piece of safety equipment for every child. Life jackets aren't a substitute for supervision or swim lessons—they're another important layer of protection.

Common Myths and Facts
Myth: Strong swimmers never need to wear a PFD or life jacket.
Fact: Even experienced swimmers can become incapacitated due to fatigue, injury, cold water, or
unexpected medical emergencies.
Myth: PFDs and life jackets are only for boats.
Fact: Wearing a PFD or life jacket provides a valuable layer of safety anytime you are in or around
the water.
Myth: A child wearing a PFD or life jacket means they don’t have to be supervised.
Fact: Wearing a PFD or life jacket does not replace active, close, and constant supervision. A child
can still slip out of an improperly fitted jacket or get into a dangerous situation even while wearing
one. Moreover, most PFDs will not float an incapacitated person face up. Check the label for
information on what the PFD is designed to do. Also review material provided by the manufacturer.
Myth: I don't need to enroll my child in swim lessons since I always put them in a PFD or life jacket
when swimming.
Fact: PFDs and life jackets do not teach a child to swim independently without instruction. Many
child drowning incidents happen when the child was not expected to be near the water. It is
critically important to teach young children to be water competent and learn to swim. Children
need active time learning to swim when they aren’t in a life jacket so they don’t become over-reliant
on the device or use a body position in the water that makes it harder to learn to swim.
