🇺🇸🏁 CRANDON NATIONALS — RACE REPORT 🏁🇺🇸
What a weekend at Crandon!
We had an incredible time at the Crandon Nationals, but like most Ultra4 weekends, it definitely didn’t come without a fight.
Practice started with a pretty hard hit on a rock that basically destroyed the lower control arm, snapped the shock, and broke the frame mounts for the lower control arm. Not exactly how we wanted to start the weekend.
A HUGE thank you to Polaris for getting us a replacement lower control arm and to FOX Shocks for rebuilding our shocks in about an hour, because those things were absolutely trashed.
I also can’t thank Ian Dickie enough for hustling all over the place and helping get everything we needed to put the car back together.
And a massive shoutout to Dallas Page and his dad, Paul Page, for bringing their welder down, repairing the frame mounts, and helping get us back on track after practice. Also, race spotting for me. That’s what the racing community is all about.
Once we got into the race, we were still dealing with an issue where a hard shock to the car would cause the power steering to reset. You’ll actually see it happen a couple times in the video, I would lose power steering, have to stop, reset the system, and get moving again.
Because of that, I went out a little less aggressive than I normally would have liked.
But Ultra4 is a WAR OF ATTRITION.
I knew if I stayed smooth, stayed consistent, and kept the car underneath me, we could start moving forward as other cars ran into problems.
We started 12th, got passed early, and found ourselves near the back of the field.
Then we went to work.
Within the first two laps, we started making our way back through the pack and ultimately brought it home:
🏁 8TH PLACE OUT OF 17
Considering everything that happened during practice, the steering issues during the race, and the fact that we were able to finish without breaking the car again, I’m pretty damn happy with that result.
We learned a lot, kept fighting, and brought the car home.
