We celebrated 50 YEARS OF LEGACY honoring the legendary 1976 CIAA Champion Spartans, the men who laid the foundation and showed the world what Spartan Pride, Brotherhood, and Excellence truly look like.

And then… Coach Vick and the Spartans made their own statement! 🏈

The Spartan Spotlight campaign has given us the opportunity to celebrate the incredible breadth of men who have worn the Green & Gold and to recognize that what began on the football field became so much more beyond it.

The Spartan experience taught us discipline.
It built brotherhood.
It developed leaders.
It created resilience.
And it helped shape us into the men we are today.

From championship teams of yesterday to the Spartans carrying the torch today, our legacy continues to grow.

🏈 SPARTAN SPOTLIGHT 🏈

Today, we shine the spotlight on Rashad Howard NSU Class of 2008! 🔰

A former Spartan wide receiver and punt/kick returner, Rashad made his mark on the field with the same determination and explosiveness that define the Spartan spirit. During his junior season, he led the nation in punt return yards a tremendous accomplishment and a proud piece of the Norfolk State football legacy. 🏈💨

But the Spartan journey doesn’t end when the jersey comes off.

Today, Rashad is a licensed barber and proud business owner in Richmond, Virginia, continuing to build his own path and create success beyond the football field. His journey is a reminder that the lessons, discipline, confidence, and perseverance developed as a Spartan can continue to shape you long after your playing days are over.

And when it comes to the Spartans today, Rashad is expecting a winning season and for the team to build on last year’s results.

From making plays in the return game to building a business in his community, Rashad Howard continues to represent what it means to be a Spartan.

🏈 SPARTAN SPOTLIGHT 🏈

Today, we shine the spotlight on Quintreil Chung, a proud member of the Spartan family and a member of the 2019 Norfolk State University graduating class. 🔰

During his time in Spartan Nation, Quintreil played both Running Back and Linebacker, bringing his versatility and competitive spirit to the field. From making plays between the lines to representing the Green & Gold, his time as a Spartan became part of a legacy that continues long after the final whistle.

Today, Quintreil continues to build his career in property management and real estate, working as a property manager and carrying the lessons of his Spartan experience into his professional journey.

And what does he expect from this year’s Spartans?

SUCCESS. 💪🏾

His message is simple: “Keep the main thing, the main thing.” No outside noise. No distractions. There’s plenty of talent on this roster. Now it’s time to put it all together and let that talent show. 🏈🔥

🏈 SPARTAN SPOTLIGHT 🏈

This week, we shine the light on Ricardo Jerome, a proud Spartan whose journey from the defensive line at Norfolk State to educating, coaching, and developing the next generation of leaders is a true example of what the Spartan experience can become.

Jerome graduated from Norfolk State University in May 2005 after representing the Spartans on the defensive line from 2001–2005. But his commitment to serving others didn’t stop when his playing days ended.

Since leaving NSU, Ricardo has made giving back to youth a major part of his life. From teaching elementary PE and middle school Special Education to teaching Life and Decision Making at the high-school level, his impact has reached students in Virginia and North Carolina.

His commitment to athletics has been just as strong. Since 2007, Ricardo has coached high school football and track & field, spending time at Warwick and Denbigh High Schools before continuing his journey at Nash Central High School in Rocky Mount, NC, where he has coached football as an assistant for 12 years and currently serves as Head Track & Field Coach.

Perhaps most importantly, Ricardo has helped more than 120 student-athletes advance to the collegiate level to continue pursuing their sport. 👏🏾

And the Spartan connection continues.

Ricardo recently took on a part-time coaching role as the Defensive Line Coach at North Carolina Wesleyan University bringing his experience and passion for developing athletes to another generation.

When asked what he expects from the Spartans this season, his answer is simple:

Growth. Dominance. And a MEAC Championship. 🏆

With one of his former players now wearing the Spartan uniform, Ricardo knows firsthand that the connection between a coach, a player, and a program can extend far beyond the playing field.

From Spartan defensive lineman to educator, coach, mentor, and leader, Ricardo Jerome continues to represent the values of Spartan football developing people, building confidence, and creating opportunities for the next generation.

🏈 SPARTAN SPOTLIGHT 🏈

Today, we shine the spotlight on Brodrick Johnson, a proud member of the 2005 Norfolk State University football family. 🔰

As a Defensive End, Brodrick helped represent Spartan football on the field while being part of a tradition that continues to connect generations of student-athletes.

Today, Brodrick continues to give back through coaching and mentoring using his experiences to help guide and develop others. His journey is a reminder that the Spartan experience doesn’t end when you leave campus. The lessons, relationships, and pride stay with you.

Reflecting on his time at Norfolk State, Brodrick shared:

“I’m honored to be a part of a great HBCU and organization.”

And as the Spartans prepare for another season, his message is clear: bring a winning mindset, buy into the coaching staff, and work together toward a successful season. 💪🏾🏈

Today, we celebrate Herman Anderson, a proud member of the Spartan family whose journey reflects the lasting impact of Norfolk State football.

🎓 NSU Class of 1986
🏈 Positions: Linebacker & Offensive Center

During his time in Spartan green and gold, Herman contributed on both sides of the football, helping build the foundation of a championship tradition that continues to inspire generations of Spartans.

Fast forward to today, and that Spartan drive continues. Herman serves as a Construction Safety Director for a large construction company in Atlanta, Georgia, while also building his own business as the owner of a medical courier service.

And when it comes to the 2026 Spartans, Herman is looking toward the future with championship expectations:

“Hopefully under the leadership of my favorite NFL quarterback of all time, Michael Vick, the Spartans can attain another Championship win complimenting the one we achieved 42 years ago!”

That’s the Spartan spirit remember where you came from, believe in where you’re going, and continue to represent the legacy. Behold 🔰
