A pleasure to attend Jonathan Reed’s last concert as director of the Singing Spartans at Michigan State University - he’s retiring after 32 years of leading the group, including a national ACDA appearance. Congrats Jon!

It really was a banner year for TB choirs at the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) national conference! In addition to the three choirs that performed early in the week, there were two more to round out the conference. We also had a session with Tim Seelig on some of his favorite rep, and a "deep dive" short reading session featuring four works. There was even a TB honor choir (grades 7-10)!

The ACDA national conference has featured several TB choirs so far. And we get to hear more later in the week!

Sorry for the delayed post about the final day of our Seminar. I blame the change to Daylight Savings Time! 🌞😎

On Saturday we enjoyed a plethora of fascinating interest sessions on a variety of subjects. David Rayl took us on a tour of not-so-standard repertoire from the Classical and Romantic periods. Clayton Parr imparted his unbounded enthusiasm and knowledge with music from the Republic of Georgia. And Joshua Golden shared wisdom and beautiful music from the Baroque and early Classical periods that can be performed by TB ensembles.

John Liepold led a spirited reading session of works for Middle and High School ensembles, assisted by the fine reading skills of the Missouri State Men's Chorus and IMC member conductors.

We enjoyed a master class with an ad hoc sextet from the OU Men's Glee Club, had our biennial Membership Luncheon, and braved stormy weather throughout the day.

A real highlight of the day was the presentation of the Marshall Bartholomew Award to Patrick Gardner, the recently-retired Director of both the Rutgers University Glee Club and the Riverside Choral Society. It was a pleasure to honor Pat for his decades of service to the world of Tenor-Bass choirs. He hosted our National Seminar twice at Rutgers, commissioned numerous works, and provided years of excellent, memorable performances with his ensembles.

The Seminar ended with a splendid concert by New York Polyphony featuring music that spanned a mere 800 years! And afterwards, some of us were able to sample some of that legendary Oklahoma beef.

Thank you again to our host, David Howard, and everyone at OU, along with our presenters, choirs, conductors, and attendees. We look forward to seeing you in two years, when Andrew Clark and the Harvard Glee Club will host the 2027 Seminar in Cambridge, Massachusetts!
