Today’s spotlight goes to Aliza Neely!

Grade: 10th Grade (Sophomore; Rising Junior)

Cheer Experience:
Aliza completed her first year on the Fort Dorchester JV Winter Cheer Team and quickly proved herself as a dedicated athlete. She learned the fundamentals of cheer with impressive speed and earned opportunities to perform alongside Varsity during games and performances. Throughout the season, she developed into both a strong stunt base and a confident flyer. As a first-year flyer, she even mastered flying in extension stunts—an incredible accomplishment. Aliza has exceptional cheer skills, strong Stomp and Shake technique, and always kept the team smiling with her signature walk that brought laughter and positive energy to every practice.

📣 FDHS Winter Cheer Tryout Prep! 💙📣

Practice these Winter Cheer fundamentals before tryouts:
✨ Single Shake
✨ Double Shake
✨ Up Stomps
✨ Down Stomps
✨ Washing Machine Shake
✨ Trots

Practice with strong, tight motions and sharp technique. Cheer jumps are not shown in this video but are also required and should be practiced.

🗓 Mondays & Fridays beginning August 10
🕓 4:15–6:00 PM

⚠️ A current athletic physical must be uploaded to Arbiter Registration before attending Open Practices.

📋 All required tryout paperwork must be submitted by Friday, August 28 to be eligible to try out.

🗓 September 1–3 | 4:15–6:30 PM

📣 Tryout Evaluation
🗓 September 4 | Begins at 4:15 PM until all athletes have been evaluated.

🏐 Fall Sport Athletes

Athletes participating in a fall sport will not miss practices or competitions for Winter Cheer. Required clinic attendance will be waived.

Drill videos and tryout material will be posted for independent practice. Athletes participating in a fall sport may submit a video tryout by September 4 at 4:00 PM for consideration for team placement. If you anticipate any conflicts with the submission deadline, please contact Coach Johnson as soon as possible.

📣 Cheerleader of the Day – Jewel 💙✨

Grade: 10th Grade (Sophomore; Rising Junior)

Cheer Experience:
Jewel began her cheer journey with the OMS Spirit Team during her 8th grade year before cheering on the Fort Dorchester Freshman Fall Cheer Team. She then completed one season as a member of the FDHS JV Winter Cheer Team, where she has continued to show tremendous growth. Her confidence, sharpness, and teamwork have all strengthened beautifully. She consistently works to improve her motions, learn new skills, and bring uplifting energy to the team. She has made noticeable progress in her stunt technique, cheer ex*****on, and jump form, and her effort shines every time she hits the mat. As a versatile stunt athlete, Jewel has served as a main base, side base, and back spot in both prep- and extension-level stunts, demonstrating her strength, adaptability, and commitment to supporting her teammates.

📣 Cheerleader of the Day 💙✨
Today’s spotlight goes to Peyton Brown!

Grade: 9th Grade (Freshman; Rising Sophomore for 26-27 year!)

Cheer Experience:
Peyton is a proud OMS Spirit Team alumna who began her cheer journey in the 7th grade. During her two years on the Oakbrook Middle Spirit Team, she grew into a leader and continued that leadership as one of the JV Cheer Captains during her first year on the Fort Dorchester High School JV Winter Cheer Team. This season, Peyton expanded her skills tremendously, learning stunting, dance, shakes, stomps, trots, and many new techniques beyond what she learned in middle school. She worked hard on prep and extension stunts and loves coming to practice every day to learn new cheers, routines, and performances for our games and events. Peyton hopes to continue growing as an athlete, master even bigger skills, and continue cheering beyond high school. Throughout her cheer journey, she has earned several awards and accolades on both the OMS Spirit Team and the FDHS Winter Cheer Team. Her leadership, dedication to the team, love for the sport, and commitment to growth continue to shine every day.
