The Soul Train Dancer’s
We were The Youngest Soul Train Dancers to ever grace the inside of The Train. There were only a select few of us barely 15 years old, but no one knew this at the time and it didn’t matter after a few months because we were invited SOUL TRAIN DANCERS!!! My girls were called The Ladies Legit and The Dapper Girls. When we were on the scene it was in the late 1980’s. There were so many awesome character dancer’s like the now famous Rosie Perez, (btw, Rosie you know you stole our moves.) She, like most, were a bit older than us and a lot more mature in so many ways, LOL, but it was all good! We had fun with all of our somewhat senior dancer’s. Do you remember Otis The Masked Man, Deisel & Fantasy the two Pop’n and Lock’n Homeboys, Our very own Michael Jackson, Cheryl Song The Asian Beauty with the long hair, Dereck Foxtails, Neicie, Sheila, Leland, Shimmy, Marco and of course The Legendary Louie Car aka Lou-Ski The Cutty-Mack himself, and so many more unforgettable wonderful dancer’s. Everyone had their own style, look, and goals. Some became well know Singers, some Professional Choreographers, some Actors and some were there just to get their groove on (like me). Yes, there were opportunities to be featured on many artist videos because that was still the new thing and of course the artist wanted attractive talented dancers so... Soul Train Dancers were sought after and recognized all over the world. I think we all got in a few videos. Yeah, Good Times... Freebies were endless or so it seemed. Invited in the hottest new clubs, Award shows, and public events. We even got to dine on KFC Chicken paid for by Don C. during lunch time at every show taping and if you were lucky and fast enough, you got two boxes. (That was not the best part, but at least after all that dancing, we did get to eat for free). There were egos, attitude a lil backstabbing and affairs all over the studio, which was to be expected because after all, WE were Soul Train Dancers, right? One never knew what would happen other than dancing, but honestly, we all endured and had great fun together on every show. In most cases, I would assume that the ultimate goal was to be up on the risers, center stage and to do the Soul Train Line at the head of the line every take, as well as doing The Scrabble Board (3 times for me). So I’m happy to say that I have done it all, to some degree! I Love You All Soul Train Dancer’s, Our Memories Will Live On Forever...
