THE YOGA DEN HAS MOVED TO A NEW LOCATION!

We are now located in the Acme shopping plaza in Norton! We are so excited to offer you 1300 square feet of beautifully renovated space for Yoga and Barre classes. Our website has stayed the same, our staff has grown quite a bit, with a new owner coming on board! Shelley Blaho is joining us with 20 years of her own personal yoga practice, she is a CRNA at Aultman Hospital. Shelley has a masters degree in Critical Incident Management, and trust me when I say, she’s thought of EVERYTHING to keep everyone who walks in our door, as safe as possible.

Keep checking our Facebook and our new Insta page for all the latest updates, schedule, staff bios and COVID protocol. We will be opening SATURDAY JUNE 6th, offering free 30-45 minute mini classes all weekend! Come meet our staff and take a class!

My friend and business partner, @sunshelb came up with this awesome Yoga maze yesterday for kids yoga.
During our mat chat, we discussed the brain, it’s pathways of connection, and how mindfulness activities, such as yoga and meditation, can create new pathways.

The maze was a beautiful illustration of how we can create the thoughts we want to have and ‘re’wire’ our thoughts in a desired direction.

I am truly blessed and grateful to have so many awesome people in my life and in this studio.

Every Tuesday and Thursday @4:30 is my favorite part of the week.... it’s when we come back to ourselves, to the joy that children still understand and remember. It’s a piece of ourselves that we lose and forget to look for again, and again and again. It’s a time for honesty, for laughter and for just plain fun. I invite you to stop in and see for yourself how beautiful it is when you give a child space to be free, to be themselves and to be joyful. ❤️

Join me in welcoming Megan Peters to the Yoga Den!

Megan will be teaching intermittently for us, and we are hoping to snag her for a regular class!

She will be leading us every other Saturday (beginning tomorrow) this month @9am for a Hot Power Flow.
Here’s a little about Megan-

Megan discovered the transformative power of Yoga in 2008 when she first did the P90X program. She began a vinyasa practice soon after that has continued today. As an athlete with flexibility problems she found Yoga helped keep her injury free. But it was the mental and spiritual aspect that changed her life. She began practicing for the exercise but continues to practice because it taps into her inner strength and she feels more connected to God.
Megan is a disciple of Jesus, wife and mother of 4 beautiful children. She began teaching after her 4th child in 2012. She has received two 200hr RYT certifications, a 95hr Holy Yoga certification and a 60hr Trauma Sensitive Yoga certification. Megan has been blessed to teach well over 1000hrs of yoga which has earned her an E-RYT 200 status.
A class with Megan will challenge you not only physically but mentally and spiritually as well. Her classes are often themed with music and topic. She weaves her topic throughout the class giving her students something to ponder on as they flow.

Melissa Tompkins Bio

This has held true for Melissa Tompkins throughout her life’s journey. Having grown up in Green, she is an Ohio native, who now serves her community as the founder and Creative Director of the Yoga Den LLC. There have been many turning points in the road that led her to her current role.

Early Career

In 2008, she was looking for a way to make money while still being able to stay home with her children, Jack (now 19) and Grace (now 17). In 2008 she found her answer in opening Miss Melissa’s Preschool. Having worked at a preschool previously she knew she wanted to create a unique program to engage the children she taught. She devised a nature/play based curriculum for her students combining the knowledge gained while earning her Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential and her intuitive understanding that budding minds and hearts bloom with more joy and vibrancy when engaged with the natural world.

Melissa’s days of searching weren’t over and her next quest was much deeper. Like so many survivors of trauma, she suffered from PTSD and was seeking a way to heal. In 2015 after researching ways to heal she found her way to yoga, a practice that allowed to both quiet her mind and to create the space for an introspective meditative state as she worked through her inner struggles. So impressed by the benefits of yoga, she knew her students would thrive as mindfulness and meditative practices were integrated into her class.

Pursuit of Yoga

The call to pursue yoga full time by helping others on their journey to stronger minds and bodies grew until she could no longer ignore it and in 2016 she closed her daycare. The last three years have been filled with the immeasurable beauty and growth for her after diving headfirst into her heart’s work, learning to trust her intuition and skill along the way. She constantly cycles between the roles of student and instructor, knowing the best teachers never stop learning. After earning her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification at Yoga Strong, she still regularly attends various trainings and advanced classes, always elevating her practice to the next level. As a teacher she has spent over 1,000 hours sharing the practice of yoga with others in a wide range of environments including:

· corporate facilities

· fitness and dance studios

· schools

· camps

· private parties

· homes for individual sessions

She has also had the gift of being able to share the tools of mindfulness and meditation with others through:

· guided meditation sessions

· seminars teaching the basics and benefits

· workshops for children, addressing their ‘busy minds, and ‘nervous bellies’

The Yoga Den

All the time and energy she invested in growing her practice led to the unexpected opportunity to open The Yoga Den in 2018. Melissa offers students a range of welcoming classes grounded in the principals of the classic yoga tradition. She promotes an atmosphere of wellness and healing integrating a range of tools into each class including:

· yoga blocks

· singing bowls

· salt lamps

· bolsters

· yoga blankets

· REIKI

Melissa also taps the lessons learned along her path sharing techniques for helping to create and strengthen new neural pathways in the brain which can aid in re-wiring conditioned programming or thought patterns. The Yoga Den also seeks to play an active roll building a happier stronger community by:

· offering special community events

· sharing Restorative Yoga with students from Echoing U, an organization that assists individuals with developmental and intellectual challenges

· sharing trauma informed Yoga with women in early addiction recovery at ARC Recovery Services

· teaching at Green High School

· teaching at Walsh University

· featuring the art of local artists

For those leery of trying yoga, perhaps feeling the practice is outside of their skill set, Melissa hopes they will trust her to meet them where they are and guide them through the practice. She strongly feels judgement has no place in yoga and she brings a unique set of skills to support that position:

· spilling essential oils

· burning herself on incense

· tripping over her own feet

These humbling “skills” are the reminder that we are all human. Success in yoga is not measured by perfection, but instead, a willingness to try and an openness to self-discovery.

On a personal note...

As the beauty of this current chapter unfolds Melissa looks forward to exploring life’s many opportunities. Someday she may reach her goal of visiting the breathtaking Bay Of Islands in New Zealand or the mountains of Bali. For now, her newest project has her writing a children’s book, which she is excited to see the outcome of. Outside of her work in the yoga community Melissa finds ways to create and connect with the simple joys in her life. She embraces the natural world by hiking, kayaking and riding her bike on the towpath. At home she enjoys creating meals for family and friends, or curling up to good book. While she finds something to love in almost any genre of music, her heart resonates most deeply with stringed classical instrumental.
