For years, there was debate about the lineage of this incredible breed, known for its smooth, rhythmic four-beat lateral gait.

In 2022, a genetic study conducted by the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez uncovered the definitive truth: the Paso Fino originated exclusively from the Puerto Rican Criollo horse.

The study confirmed there is zero genetic contribution from South American Paso horses.
