Finally! After 18 years in my business. I took my trainers test and passed. Now on to Louisiana to be a legal asst.

This would be the last time Bill Shoemaker would ride Northern Dancer.

Trainer Horatio Luro offered the Shoe the mount on Northern Dancer in the Kentucky Derby only to be turned down because Shoemaker felt the Santa Anita Derby winner, Hill Rise, was the better horse.

Bill Hartack would get the mount on Northern Dancer in the Kentucky Derby and would ride him in all his remaining starts.

Shoemaker and Hill Rise would finish behind Northern Dancer and Bill Hartack in both the Derby and Preakness.
