The Board of Kuvasz Club of America (KCA) is issuing this statement to address the tragic event occurring at the National Specialty involving the deaths of a KCA member’s Kuvasz on May 30, 2026. The KCA has declined to participate in social media debates while the AKC investigation is pending. That restraint should not be interpreted as confirmation of the claims being circulated. The KCA expressly rejects the inaccurate, misleading, and patently false statements alleging a “coverup” currently appearing on social media. The repetition, volume, and inflammatory language do not transform a lie into fact.

The KCA Board is bound and guided by the procedures established by the AKC and the KCA Constitution and Bylaws. The KCA will, to the best of our ability, conduct ourselves within those guidelines. The KCA fully intends to follow that guidance with transparency and fairness to all concerned. The KCA can confirm that the AKC Field Representative, Show Veterinarian, Show Chair, and Cluster Chair were promptly notified of the events of that day and independently conducted their own investigation.

Otherwise, we want to address the misinformation surrounding the absence of disciplinary hearings. Five (5) KCA members filed charges against the person whose dogs died. Pursuant to Article VII of the KCA Bylaws, the Board reviewed the charges, and a hearing was scheduled for July 13, 2026. However, the complainants elected not to proceed and resigned their memberships in the KCA. Consequently, no findings or disciplinary decision could be made on those complaints. The KCA Board has no authority under its Constitution and Bylaws to unilaterally impose penalties and discipline outside the procedures of its Bylaws.

Finally, the KCA will not adjudicate this matter on Facebook or any other social media platform. Nor will the Board abandon established procedures in response to public pressure, personal attacks, or mob mentality of social media bullying. The KCA encourages its members to distinguish verified information from rumor, speculation, personal opinion, and outright falsehoods. The Board will continue to cooperate with the AKC and will take any appropriate action once official findings are available and the requirements of the KCA Constitution and Bylaws have been satisfied.

The loss of these dogs should not be forgotten. Once the AKC investigations have concluded the KCA will be in a better position to determine what disciplinary and/or educational initiatives, safety recommendations, or other measures should be considered. Questions concerning vehicle ventilation, emergency planning, monitoring of dogs during travel, and the effects of extreme weather all warrant thoughtful discussion. That discussion will be most productive when it is based upon established facts and informed guidance.

We appreciate your concern for the breed and your desire that something constructive emerge from this terrible loss. The Board shares that goal, but it must move forward deliberately, responsibly, and fairly.

Temperatures Thursday, Friday and Saturday will top 100 degrees in many areas. Keep in mind this is just as dangerous for pets as it is for us. Avoid walking your dog during the hottest part of the day. The graphic below shows paved surfaces can easily become hot enough to burn the pads on their paws.
