Once you understand the SCIENCE behind SPEED DEVELOPMENT your perspective on training changes, it starts to take on a whole new life. That’s when you start to train with MORE INTENT. You have a better understanding of WHAT exercises to add to your program. You know what exercises the MUSCLES NEED to increase SPEED and how on a CELLULAR level certain exercises are critical to SPEED DEVELOPMENT. This is a VERY BASIC explanation in order to NOT get too technical with terms to talk over peoples heads. Just know it’s just THAT technical and even more DETAILED when it comes to true SPEED DEVELOPMENT.
Being able to explain how the athlete’s “FUEL/FOOD” intake plays an INTRICATE role in SPEED DEVELOPMENT. The TIMING of when to FUEL the body for PERFORMANCE and RECOVERY. Explaining to the athlete WHAT RECOVERY looks like and WHY it’s part of their SPEED DEVELOPMENT. It can NEVER be “just go out there and run fast”. That’s just “coaching”. Your athlete NEEDS DEVELOPMENT.
Question is, are you ok with your athlete staying where they are with their God given talents. Or do you want to IMPROVE their ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE and CAPABILITIES?
As a parent, ask questions about the PROGRAM your athlete is in. Get an explanation of PROGRESSION of the PROGRAM and how it will benefit YOUR athlete. Don’t accept “trust the process” as an answer. Ask what IS the PROCESS. Not a mention of athletes that were part of the team in the past. As a parent you are investing in YOUR athlete, and can’t afford to waste your time or YOUR athlete’s time.
