Unscripted, unprompted, and exactly why Career Ownership Coaching™ works.

A client recently shared this about working with her Career Ownership Coach® at The Entrepreneur's Source®:

"What stands out most is her ability to create clarity during times of change or uncertainty. She doesn't simply tell you what you should do instead she helps you discover the right path for yourself."

That line is the whole point. A Career Ownership Coach® isn't there to hand you an answer. They're there to help you find your own with perspective, encouragement, and honest questions when you're navigating change or wondering what's next.

What happens when the "safe path" stops feeling safe?

For decades, the advice never changed: get the degree, get the job, build the life.

That promise is cracking. Only 35% of Americans now call college "very important." In 2013, it was 70% (Gallup, 2025).

This isn't just a college story. It's a career story. Families are asking if the path pays off. Shouldn't you ask that about your job?

Millions of working adults are quietly asking it about the job they already have. The old script promised security. Today it delivers uncertainty.

Career ownership isn't about throwing away what you've built. It's about choosing work that fits the life you actually want. A Career Ownership Coach® helps you explore options you didn't know existed and it's completely free.

What would you do differently if you knew the "safe"choice was never really safe? Is it time to leave your corporate job? Take our assessment: https://sroy.esourcecoach.com/assessments/?utm_source=SOCI_Assessment

🔍 Made for More Mondays: Why Do People Consider Business Ownership?

I didn’t become a business owner because I woke up one day dreaming about owning a business.

I got there by asking questions about what I wanted from my career and my life.

And today, I hear many of those same questions from the professionals I coach.

More control. More income potential. More flexibility. More ownership of their future.

Sometimes it’s a layoff, toxic environment, stalled career, or frustrating job search that starts the questioning.

Sometimes it’s simply realizing:
“I don’t want the next five years to look like the last five.”

You don’t have to know that business ownership is the answer.

But if you keep questioning whether employment is, maybe it’s worth exploring what else is possible.

📅 Let’s explore your options

You don't accidentally build the career you want.

You build it one decision at a time.
One conversation.
One opportunity.
One decision to stop settling for what's familiar.

Too many professionals spend years reacting to layoffs, reorganizations, difficult managers, or chasing the next promotion.

At some point, it's worth asking a different question.
Am I intentionally building the future I want... or simply responding to whatever comes next?

The people who build careers they love rarely get there by accident.

They get there by making intentional choices that align with the life they want to create.

Because your career should be something you design.

Not something that happens to you.

If you're ready to explore what that could look like, I'd love to help you think through your options.

What if the most valuable skill on your résumé is one you've never listed?

It's reinvention.

Over the past year, I've noticed more professionals having to reinvent themselves than at any other point in my career.

Not because they planned to.

Because circumstances changed.

A layoff.
An industry shifting.
AI changing how work gets done.
A role that suddenly isn't there anymore.

One client recently told me,
"I don't even know what I'm qualified to do anymore."

The interesting part?
She wasn't lacking skills.
She was looking at them through the lens of her last job instead of everything she was capable of.

That's the difference.

Reinvention isn't about becoming someone else.

It's about seeing your experience in a new way.

The Entrepreneur's Source Generational Career Confidence Survey found that 83% of Americans believe business ownership is a viable alternative to a traditional career, and 80% say it offers more control over their careers.

Business ownership isn't the answer for everyone.

But exploring your options before you're forced to make a decision is always worthwhile.

If you've been wondering whether your current career is still aligned with the life you're trying to build, start there.

What would you actually change if you won $1 billion?

Someone in Quincy, Illinois, gets to answer that question for real.

A single Powerball ticket sold at a Hy-Vee gas station matched every number for a $1.04 billion jackpot.

It got me thinking...

When people dream about winning the lottery, they rarely talk about the money itself.

They talk about what the money would allow them to do.

"I'd leave my job."
"I'd spend more time with my family."
"I'd set my own schedule."
"I'd finally start that business."
"I'd stop worrying about money."

Notice something?

Most of those dreams aren't really about becoming rich.

They're about having more control over your life.

That's the conversation I have with professionals every week.

Not, "How do I make a billion dollars?"

But...

"How do I build a career that gives me more freedom, flexibility, purpose, and control?"

For some people, that's a new role.
For others, it's consulting.
For others, it's business ownership.

The path is different for everyone.

The important part is realizing you have options.

In The Entrepreneur's Source Generational Career Confidence Survey, 83% of Americans said business ownership is a viable alternative to a traditional career, and 80% of employees said it offers more control over their careers.

You don't need a winning lottery ticket to start changing your future.

You just need to be willing to ask a different question:
What kind of life am I really trying to build?

If that's a question you've been asking yourself lately, I'd be happy to help you explore your options.

📈 Made for More Mondays: Think Like an Investor

One of the biggest lessons I had to learn as a business owner was this:
"Do I like this business?" isn't the same question as "Does this business make sense?"

One pattern I see every week is people dismissing an opportunity because they immediately picture themselves doing the work.

Investors don't stop at first impressions.

They ask different questions.
Does this fit the life I'm trying to build?
Does the business model make sense?
Does it fit the role I actually want to play?
Can it help me reach my long-term goals?

Your familiarity with an industry or a brand can shape your first impression. But your first impression shouldn't make the decision for you.

The moment you stop assuming and start exploring, your options expand.

So here's something to think about this week:

Are you evaluating your future based on what's familiar...

Or based on what could actually help you build the future you want?

That's a different conversation altogether.

If this is a conversation you've been having with yourself, maybe it's time we have it together.

Your career can look successful on paper...

Good salary.
Great title.
Respected company.

And still leave you wondering...
"Is this really it?"

Success and fulfillment aren't always the same thing.

Fulfillment comes from building a life that aligns with your values, purpose, priorities, and the future you want to create.

That's the conversation I have with professionals every week.

Not "How do I get another job?"
But...
"How do I build a career that actually fits the life I want?"

Because you weren't made to spend your career settling.
You were made to build something meaningful.

How does ageism show up at work? Rarely as a policy. Usually as an assumption.

In AARP's new survey of workers 50 and older, 64% said they had seen or experienced age discrimination on the job. Ask what it looks like day to day?

It shows up as being assumed less tech-savvy. As the assumption that you resist change. As generational jokes, expertise that goes unrecognized, and training that goes to someone younger.

What if the thing you are being penalized for is just not true? For Example: In five years, the number of workers 50+ listing skills like AI grew 25%, almost twice the pace of younger workers. Read More: https://sroy.esourcecoach.com/blog/?utm_source=SOCI_Parameter
