Nine of our club members were among the 5,486 Volksmarchers (walkers) at the Crazy Horse Memorial in the Black Hills of South Dakota today. This will be offered again September 27, 2026 if these pictures intrigue you! Our next club event is June 14th at the Gene Leahy Mall from 10 a.m. to noon, where we give passersby gifts to celebrate the AVA's 50th birthday. See you there!

We finished Walking Week with an afternoon walk in Shelby, Iowa. We hosted a walker from Texas, as well as two walkers from Des Moines, IA, along with local walkers. Thanks to everyone who came out and made this week a success!

We've gotten a couple of questions about just where Entrance 4 to Standing Bear Lake is located. It's on N. 132nd Street between Ida/Military and Fort Streets, closer to Ida/Military than to Fort. There are 2 entrances along that stretch - don't get fooled! Some pictures might help. We'll be at the shelter behind the playground, marked with that gray marker inside of the blue circled area.

This morning's group visit to The Wall That Heals in Council Bluffs was a somber experience. We remember those who gave their lives to support this country, in this case, the Vietnam War. What an appropriate way to begin the Memorial Day weekend! The exhibit will run until May 25th at Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs, if you'd like to learn more.

The weather for tomorrow's (Saturday's) walk at Standing Bear Lake looks great! The group walk will start at 9:30 a.m. Since this is a Volksmarch, a $4 fee per walker applies. See you at the shelter behind the playground at the end of the road coming in from Entrance 4 (N. 132nd Street, between Fort and Ida, much closer to Ida than to Fort - the turn comes up suddenly, so keep an eye out for the large entrance sign.)
