What Is Green Aeration & Why Do We Do It?
If you've ever wondered what happens during aeration, here is a quick breakdown of the process:
Core Extraction: Specialized aerification machines remove tiny soil plugs (cores) from the putting surface to break up thatch and compacted soil caused by foot traffic and machinery.
Oxygen & Nutrient Flow: Removing these cores creates vital pathways for air, water, and nutrients to reach deep into the roots.
Sand Topdressing: Fine sand is spread across the green and brushed into the open holes to stabilize the turf.
Recovery & Smoothness: Deep root growth is stimulated, helping the grass heal quickly so greens stay fast and true all season long!

110 YEARS OF ELMWOOD GOLF COURSE! β³οΈ To celebrate this milestone, we are sharing our THEN & NOW photo series and celebrating with Tee it Up FORE Omaha Parks! this September.
This historic course map from 1915 originally placed the first hole next to the Elmwood Park Pavilion thatβs been used since 1909. (1915, Omaha Daily News) The original Elmwood Park Golf Course layout was designed in 1916 by Charles Johnson of the Happy Hollow Club and C.H. English, Omahaβs Recreation and Play Supervisor.
βAlways presenting the most beautiful natural hazards, old Elmwood park, with its acres and acres of fine big trees, ravines, undergrowth, hills and valleys, has been converted into a links that is nearly perfect β so nearly perfect, in fact, that even the most skilled player will find difficulties which will tax him to the utmost to overcome.β Sunday World Herald, December 2, 1915

110 YEARS OF ELMWOOD GOLF COURSE! β³οΈ To celebrate this milestone, we are sharing our THEN & NOW photo series and celebrating with Tee it Up FORE Omaha Parks! this September.
In 1915, Omaha Parks Commissioner Joseph Hummel recognized the potential for a new 18-hole municipal course to offer an alternative to 9-hole Miller Park Golf Course, founded in 1911. As Elmwood Golf Course opened in 1916, they had 70 members and predicted they would expand to 200 by 1917.

HISTORY MADE AT JOHNNY GOODMAN GOLF COURSE π¨β³
On August 12th, Carson Schaake put on an absolute clinic, firing a mind-blowing 11-under-par 61 to set a NEW course record!π₯
Carson's flawless, bogey-free scorecard featured:
π7 Birdies
β³ 2 Eagles
He officially passed the previous record of 63, held by Head Professional Pete Hagen. Huge shoutout to playing partners Danny Woodhead, John Petersen, and Will Barth for witnessing history in the making π

110 YEARS OF ELMWOOD GOLF COURSE! β³οΈ To celebrate this milestone, we are launching a THEN & NOW photo series and celebrating with Tee it Up FORE Omaha Parks! this September.
In 1916, an 18-hole public golf course was established adjacent to Elmwood Park, making it the oldest 18-hole municipal golf course in the city. The golf course opened early due to high public demand before the bridges and greens were fully finished.
This historic picture features HOLE 8 and is taken from βThe Elmwood Caddie,β a newspaper that was published during the 1920s. (1925. Durham BF7-388)

What an incredible summer of Junior Golf! β³
Our six-week program was filled with exciting milestones, from first-time 9-hole rounds to personal bests in the Westwood Progressive League. And the seasonβs biggest highlight? One young golfer celebrated their very first hole-in-one! π
Weβre proud of everything our junior golfers accomplished this summer and loved watching their skills and confidence grow along the way!
