DANNY COWAN'S BLOG 09/15/2023

Over the past month, I've written about four weird seasons in sports history, from Ron Hunt getting hit by 50 pitches in a season, to Bruce Bowen finding 3's easier then free throws in 2002-03. Writing is not something that comes super natural to me, so this was a good opportunity to improve my craft. If you're interested in reading any of the articles I wrote, check out my blog:

After Bruce Bowen's 2002-03 season, his free throw percentage did improve, topping out at 63.4% in 2004-05. After his playing days were over, the retired his jersey number in 2012, and he currently coaches a high school team in Texas.

So, why was Bowen worse at shooting free throws then threes? Well, no one knows for sure, and it's most likely due to multiple reasons. Reasons could be low sample size for free throws, Bowen only shot open threes from the corners, and free throws could have been a mental block for Bowen.

My new post, "Bruce Bowen Found 3's Easier than Free Throws" is now out. In my blog post, I talk about how Bruce Bowen's 2002-03 season just makes no sense, as his 3 point percentage was somehow better then his free throw percentage. dannycowansports.wordpress.com

For the final week of Weird Seasons, the topic will be an player by the name of Bruce Bowen. Bowen played mainly for the , and gained a reputation as an elite defender on multiple championship teams. However, he had one glaring weakness: he could not shoot free throws, despite seemingly being an elite three point shooter. If you missed last week's post about Jameis Winston, I'd encourage you to take a look. dannycowansports.wordpress.com

Happy Opening Day! During this campaign, I like to use Thursdays to go over what happened to the players or teams involved in the "weird season". After Jameis Winston's 2019 season, the parted ways with him, for a player by the name of Tom Brady. The went on to win the the next year, while Winston signed with the . He's struggled to remain healthy, and looks to be the Saints' backup in 2023.

In 2019, Jameis Winston became one of just nine players in the era to throw for over 5000 yards in a season. When you put all of those season and chart them by touchdowns and interceptions, Winston really stands out. Winston also stands out among QB's in 2019, with only two other players throwing at least 20 touchdowns and interceptions.
