GREAT NEWS: Our bipartisan Drowning Prevention bill SB 428 was just signed into law!!! This new law adds drowning prevention safety measures and safe bathing practices to required postpartum education provided to new parents by hospitals, birthing centers, and home birth providers. It also expands Florida’s child swim lesson voucher program to ages 1-7, a huge win for Florida families! 👏 👏 👏
Thanks to all the advocates who helped make this happen, especially who brought us the postpartum education proposal.
We’re also grateful to our House partners and Rep. Kim Kendall and to Senator Clay Yarborough who all worked together to merge these proposals into one bipartisan legislative package. 🏊♀️

Another reason to sign up for swimming lessons early!
Introducing toddlers to swimming at an early age is life saving. Studies suggest children who start before age 4 are up to 88% less likely to experience drowning incidents later in life. Safety is just one of many benefits.
Swimming also offers remarkable cognitive advantages. Unlike most play activities, water movement activates both hemispheres of the brain simultaneously. This bilateral stimulation supports coordination, balance, and early neural wiring for complex motor skills.
Parents may notice improved focus, sensory integration, and body awareness as toddlers practice swimming. The repetitive movements and resistance of water provide a unique environment for nervous system development that land based activities rarely offer.
The takeaway is clear: early swimming is more than a safety skill. It quietly strengthens your toddler’s nervous system, enhances brain communication, and lays a foundation for future motor, cognitive, and emotional growth.

Thank you to LifeSong Preschool for having me and helping spread water safety awareness! It was so fun to see some of my swimmers at school 💙 Stewie The Duck is a great book that teaches basic water safety.

This is a great explanation of the swim float swim method. I have said on many occasions that these swimming lessons are some of the first independent decisions that children experience.
👉 “How do they know when to roll over?”
We get this question all the time!
✨ And honestly, we LOVE when parents ask it.
Because the answer isn’t just cool—it’s powerful.
Here’s the truth...👇
🥇 As Infant Aquatics® instructors, we’re not just teaching kids how to float—we’re teaching them WHY.
👉 We’re helping them understand where the air is, how to get to it, and how to make decisions in the water that help keep them safe.
💁 Some kids roll right away to get their bearings.
💁 Some swim first.
💁 A LOT of kids roll, swim, then roll again to see how much further they've got until they reach safety!
EVERY swim is different.
➤ Maybe they didn’t get a solid breath before entry.
➤ Maybe they’re mid-swim and getting tired.
➤ Maybe they know they can go a little farther and breathe later.
✅ That’s body awareness.
✅ That’s decision-making.
✅ That’s EXACTLY what we want to see.
👉 This isn’t just muscle memory—it’s intentional.
👉 It’s not a pattern—it’s problem-solving.
And it starts with a foundation of breath control and trust in their own skills. 💪
When you see a kid in our program roll to float, it’s not just cute.
It’s a choice that might save their life.

🚨 We hear it all the time...👇
👉 “They love to go underwater, but they’re not huge fans of swimming on top of the water.”
👉 “They’re not afraid of the water at all!”
👉 “I can’t keep them in the shallow end…they’re constantly going deeper and I have to go get them and bring them back.”
👉 “When we go to the pool, all they want to do is jump. Which means I’m always catching them...🤦♀️”
🙋♀️ Sound familiar?
🚨 The truth is, a love for the water is NOT the same as being water-safe.
❌ Comfort in the water doesn’t mean your child knows what to do if they unexpectedly end up in it.
❌ Being fearless doesn’t mean they have the skills to swim safely.
❌ Loving to jump doesn’t mean they know how to find the surface on their own.
👀 What does it look like when your kids are safer in the water? 👇
✅ They know how to hold their breath, find the surface, and get air.
✅ They roll to float when they need to rest (even in clothes).
✅ They swim with actual technique—not just paddling or jumping to you. 🥴
✅ They problem-solve in the water—they don't panic!
Which one sounds like your child...🥴? We'll just drop this link in case it's time to find an Infant Aquatics® instructor near you...👇
