Monday Cup of Love

The tables that built us.

Last week we talked about Maggie. About how she leads us back to familiar tables not because they are right for us, but because she knows exactly what to expect there.

This week I want to go a little deeper.

Because some of those tables did not just feel familiar. Some of them shaped us. The way we talk to ourselves. The way we say yes when we mean no. The way we decide what we deserve.
We did not choose those tables. We were seated there. By family.

By circumstance. By the way things just were.
And some of what we learned there was beautiful. Resilience. Grit. How to love people who are complicated. How to keep going.

But some of it was not meant to come with us.

This week I am thinking about the patterns we carry that were handed to us before we were old enough to question them. Not because someone wanted to hurt us. But because they were sitting at their own table, doing the same thing.

Break the Pattern is not about blame. It is about looking clearly at what you are still carrying and asking yourself honestly: is this mine? Does this still fit? Or am I holding on to something I was never supposed to keep?

You are allowed to set it down.

What is one thing you are starting to recognize you may have outgrown? Drop it in the comments. You do not have to explain it. Just name it.

Could your inner voice be keeping you at a table too small for your future?

Last week we talked about the wrong tables. The ones we sit at longer than we should. The ones that never quite fit but somehow we keep showing up to anyway.

This week I want to talk about who led us there.

Her name is Maggie. That is what I call my inner voice. And she has been with me my whole life collecting data about everything that ever hurt me, scared me, or made me feel like I did not belong. Her whole job is to keep me safe.

But here is what I have learned about Maggie.

Safe to her looks familiar. And familiar is not always right.

Sometimes she leads me right back to the table I have always known. Not because it is the best table for me. Because she recognizes it. Because nothing there can surprise her. Because at that table she knows exactly what to expect and exactly how to protect me.

Does this resonate with you?

The problem is I have grown. And that table has not.

Sometimes it is fear that keeps us there. Sometimes it is comfort. Sometimes we do not even realize we are sitting at the wrong table because our inner voice has been quietly steering us back to it for years.

This is not a flaw. This is what she does. She loves you that much.

But part of meeting your inner voice is learning to recognize when she is protecting you from your past instead of making room for your future.

So tell me. Is there a table in your life right now that you may have outgrown?

Drop a word in the comments. Just one.

Ever said 'yes' so many times you're completely exhausted? You keep going because no one else knows how to step in, and maybe you forgot how to ask for help long ago.
