Competitor Spotlight: Nikki
Meet Nikki—a social studies teacher at Wasilla High School, wife, mom, dog mom, and apparently someone who has discovered that the best way to avoid speeding tickets is to race legally down the quarter mile instead of testing her luck on the Glenn Highway.
This June, Nikki will be taking on Alaska Speed Week behind the wheel of her patriotic Americana-themed Mazda, trading lesson plans for launch times and grading papers for reaction times.
By day, she teaches civics and government. During Speed Week, she'll be learning a different kind of lesson—what it takes to race, drive, and survive nearly 1,000 miles of Alaska roads while competing at tracks across the state.
"I love fast cars, good people, and anything with a little friendly competition."
That attitude makes her a perfect fit for Alaska Speed Week.
Whether she's chasing a personal best at the track, swapping stories around the campfire, or taking in the scenery between race stops, Nikki is embracing the adventure that makes Speed Week unlike any other motorsports event in Alaska.
And there's one more reason to cheer for her Mazda this year.
If the car survives Speed Week—and survives Nikki's right foot—it will be donated to MyHouse later this summer to help support local youth.
We're excited to have Nikki joining the field this year and can't wait to see what both driver and car accomplish along the way.
Race it. Drive it. Survive it.
