Workouts Away From the Pool - USA Swimming Liability Insurance Will Not Cover
PSC Families,
Many swim clubs have had questions directed to USA Swimming about insurance and providing online instruction to your athletes. Below, excerpted fro the origial email, USA Swimming offered some practical advice for those club trying to maintain your connection with your athletes by providing workouts that can be done at home:
"First and foremost, all Safe Sport policies, including MAAPP, apply and remain paramount.
Second, with regards to providing remote workouts to your athletes, please understand that our insurance is designed to provide coverage when a USA Swimming coach is instructing line-of-sight supervised activities with athletes. If you are providing online instruction to your athletes in order to continue to collect dues and keep your team viable, this is a different business model. Our insurance does not cover this model." In this case, you move into the realm of a “Peloton” or other online resources. With that in mind, we urge you to work with your local legal resources to develop the appropriate disclaimers and additional operational requirements (every state has different regulations).
Finally, we pledge to continue to explore ways to assist, identify local and national resources, as well as work with our partners to help facilitate some of these changes in operation."
In essence, if your swimmer chooses to participate in any form of workout done away from the pool and not in the direct line of sight of a USA Swimming certified coach, then the secondary liability insurance provided by USA Swimming will not cover those types of activities. PSC needs to make sure everyone is clear on this matter and that liability will not extend to these situations. If you have any questions please let us know.
PSC Family & Friends:
Over the weekend. PCDS sent out a letter to its community indicating their plans for the immediate future in the statement below (excerpted from the original letter):
“ After considering Governor Ducey’s recent announcement about public schools and consulting with the leaders of other private schools in the Valley, . . . we have decided to take this ever-evolving situation as slow as we can, biting off manageable chunks of time before re-assessing the viability of returning, rather than simply throwing in the towel on the rest of the academic term. Accordingly, we have decided to remain off-campus until at least April 20th; during this period, we will fully activate our online learning experiences. Naturally, we will continue to evaluate this target date based on public health guidance as it unfolds.”
In light of the school’s decision, the earliest date for PSC to return to the pool will be April 20th. As such, PSC members will not be invoiced for the month of April. The Board will further evaluate our situation as more information becomes available.
We hope that everyone remains safe and healthy. Stay active to maintain your physical and mental health, whether it is hiking, biking, running, walking or utilize some of the fitness workouts that our coaching staff has shared with you. PSC is a strong community and we know that if everyone does their part, we will come back even stronger and with a greater appreciation of the sport that we love. Take care everyone.

2020 PSC Masters Sun Devil Masters Invite 50Bk Lindsay, Bob Description
PSC Families & Friends:
The COVID-19 outbreak has caused great concern in the global community and now closer to home, here at the Phoenix Country Day School and Phoenix Swim Club. We value the partnership that allows us to swim at this great facility. The school has spent considerable time contemplating the guidelines offered by the CDC and WHO as primary reference points. In an effort to put health and safety of the children and adults here at PCDS and PSC at the forefront, the campus will be closed for the next two weeks, starting on Friday, March 13th. There will be no practices for the next two weeks.
USA Swimming issued a statement today strongly recommending that all clubs across the country suspend swim meets for the next 30 day. Click here to view that statement. https://www.usaswimming.org/news-landing-page/2020/03/12/coronavirus-(covid-19)-update
PSC will follow that recommendation and so there will be no 8 & Under Spring Finale this weekend and no Phoenix Spring Invitational in early April.
We understand that our plan of action will likely cause some disruption, but like PCDS, we feel that it is our duty to put health and safety first. We will be sending out emails to update you with any more information as it develops. Please take all precautions around health and wellness, and enjoy this time with your families.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID 19) UPDATE USA Swimming News Article
PSC Friends & Families:
Thank you all for making the 2020 Phoenix Winter Invitational a great success. The meet ran very smoothly. It's like we know what we are doing after all this time. A special thanks goes out to all who volunteered, donated and generally made this meet special. PSC took 1st place in the team standings following by the Terrapins Swim Team and YMCA Westside Silver Fins. PSC also had some high point winners: Abby Reich (11-12 Girls), MJ Neilson (13-14 Girls), and Annie Carlton (15 & Over Girls). Congratulations ladies. If your swimmer participated in the meet, please have them check the file boxes on the front counter in the office. They might have a ribbon or two to collect. We wish all our swimmers the best for JO’s, States, Sectionals and beyond. Oh yes, and parents try to get some rest before our next hosted swim meet. There will just be a couple of small ones in March, April and May before the big one in June. Safe travels everyone and enjoy the Spring weather.

This weekend, Phoenix Swim Club is excited to welcome Dr. Allan Goldberg, a well respected Sports Psychology Consultant who came to the club 7 years ago and did fantastic work with our swimmers, coaches, and parents. Here is a link to his bio: https://www.competitivedge.com/about-dr-g
This Sunday at 12:30pm, we would like to invite any masters swimmers who want to work on their mental game, at meets specifically, to join our high school groups for a session with Dr. G. Please take advantage of this valuable resource the club is providing. The session will run 12:30-2:30 and be aimed at competitive athletes who want to make the most of their experience at meets and in practice. Dr G teaches through activities, discussions, stories, and humor.
Please email me or ask me at practice if you have any questions.
Thanks!

Happy 2020 and Many Thanks from the PSC Staff!
On behalf of the PSC staff, I would like to thank you for the many cards, gifts and good wishes that we all received during the holiday season. The stockings were full to the brim with the kindness, and the generosity of the PSC families was truly overwhelming. Every card and gift was heartwarming and greatly appreciated. A special thank you goes out to everyone who participated in providing gifts for the Group Foster Home Project. This was our 6th year doing this project and they were very excited and thankful. We are very lucky to be a part of such a supportive and thoughtful community. Happiness, good health and fast swimming to all for 2020!! Let’s make this year our best one yet.
