I am so excited to announce the next chapter of Hunter’s journey! Next week he’s heading to Northern Kentucky University to pursue a graduate degree in Industrial Psychology. Prayers are appreciated as he navigates a new school, new roommates, his own apartment and city life in Cincinnati 5 hours away from home. 🥲We are so proud of him and so thankful for the Swim With Mike Foundation at USC for continuing to support the emotional and academic goals of physically challenged athletes. Thank you everyone for the continued support and prayers for our entire family ❤️

The Swim With Mike Foundation's Physically Challenged Athletes Scholarship Fund is supported by yearl

Swim With Mike (SWM) and the Physically Challenged Athletes Scholarship Fund (the Fund) were inspired by University of Southern California (USC) All-American swimmer, Mike Nyeholt, who suffered a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) in a motorcycle accident after graduation. Since 1981, the foundation has grown and continually helped challenged athletes by providing financial resources for advanced education.

Jake Olson] was a long snapper for the USC football team and a alumni recipient (USC ‘19) Jake embodies “Fight On” by following his passions after becoming blind from a rare form of cancer, retinoblastoma. Here, Jake celebrates the Trojan Family and a football victory in the coliseum.

Repost from Jake Olson]

Last night was a very special night to be with this dude around Trojan football. 13 years ago it would have been a Wednesday night and 12 year old me would’ve been hanging on Kris’s arm at practice trying to take everything in as I knew it was my last night of sight. And 13 years ago this morning KO was playing mario kart with me in the pre-op of the hospital as I began to weep for what was to come. Who would have known all that was yet to come but God himself, but all I know is if it weren’t for the love from that 61 and the Trojan family, I would have never been 61 for the Trojan family. We wouldn’t be Trojans if we didn’t Fight On and Fight On together ✌🏼 Love you KO and Trojan family

Current Recipient Ignacio Montoya (M.S., Cal State LA) is making strides for paralysis patients. featured Ignacio Ignacio Montoya] on LA Times Today. Visit our website to learn more about Ignacio’s story and the incredible work he is doing.

Repost from Ignacio Montoya]

Made it on the LA Times TV Channel! Another great news report and video by the LA Times about our work with neuromodulation and aggressive effort-driven, activity-based training to demonstrate what is possible in our quest to reverse paralysis and ultimately help change the standard of care in the process. This came just in time for the SCI Neuromodulation “Moving Beyond Isolated Systems” conference in Louisville, Kentucky this week. This is the message that I and Dr. Edgerton want to reinforce and have the evidence to back up: it’s time for researchers in this area to analyze and see the whole person and ALL physiological systems affected by paralysis, which is all. Paralysis disrupts and severely affects EVERYTHING below the lesion and it translates to reactions that affect the whole body, not just a lack of mobility and/or sensations or a certain function. Rather than just focusing on isolated systems and objectives, we are demonstrating that our improvements are translating to functional gains in many different systems and functions validating the premise that it’s time to start viewing neuromodulation and it’s effects as an integrated holistic approach to the treatment of paralysis and it’s secondary complications. More great breakthroughs and results will be discussed and presented at the Society for Neuroscience Symposium this November where I will be presenting my first scientific abstract.
