The final figures are in. This years profit for the tournament is $7130.00. That is over double from last year. We would like to thank a few special people who have made this possible. Of course the coaches, players and parents deserve a huge thanks for participating. This year we used more experienced umpires, which increased the amount of money that we paid for umpires. However, the group of umpires donated back $960.00 of their wages, therefore decreasing the amount we had to pay them and increasing our profit!!! Several umpires donated back their entire wages from the weekend. Sport and Scholastic Scholarships Foundation (our concessions partner) donated $250 and Desert Embroidery (our t-shirt partner) donated $300. We also had personal donations of $283 and of course the 50/50 raffle donation of $310.
The Matthew Austin Memorial Fund will contribute $1400.00 and we (Steve and Nikki) will also contribute $1400.00 to get us to a $10,000 donation. This donation will be matched by a generous donor for a total of $20,000 donation to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!
Matthew Austin Memorial Tournament
Honoring Matthew Austin and his battle against brain cancer, while raising money for DIPG research. We were told he would live approximately 12 months.
Our son Matthew was 9 years old when he was diagnosed with DIPG, an incurable, inoperable form of brain cancer. He bravely fought for 14 months until he died in November, 2013. DIPG has no cure. The only treatment is radiation to the brain and chemotherapy- both of which are only a temporary "fixes" to slow the growth of the cancer. Matthew played baseball from time he was 4 years old.
