2022-2023 ACW Membership Renewal

For anyone who is curious about how the competitive side of our sport works, and the structure of the ACW, the following is quoted from Boss Hog himself:

“It has been a while since I posted how our league works so I thought I would post this to clarify. The ACW is a regional based league. This means that if you are a single fighter or a club who wishes to join us, you would automatically belong to your local chapter and region. If there is no chapter close to you, an opportunity to start your own chapter will be made available. Once you are part of a chapter, you can go to chapter matches where you fight other chapters. As your chapter grows, you will meet more people and have more opportunities to fight. When a chapter reaches 15 people, chapters should split and form a new chapter. The benefits of this is that you now have a chapter who is close to you to fight on a regular basis and your chapter can find a new location that is close but not exactly in the same area. This way new folks who want to join but thought your chapter was too far away might join the new group who is closer. This helps the league grow and gives our members a chance to meet and fight new teams. Chapter matches should happen regularly. A healthy chapter will have one or two matches a month. Closer chapter means that you can fight even more often as the logistics of traveling long distances goes away.

Regions- Regions are made up of several states and contain all of the chapters within that geographical area. Each region is managed by a regional commander. A regional commander will make sure to have regular regional championships to find the best melee and single fighters in their region. The best fighters in the region will make up the regional all-star team. This team will include a 5x5 men’s team, a 3x3 women’s team and single combat champions for each form, for each gender. This regional team will compete at Conference and National Level Tournaments. The best fighters from the National Tourney will have the chance to represent the Nation at international events.

The National Team- The national team is selected from the best fighters who competed at the National Tournament. These fighters will be selected based on their skill in melee and single combat but ALSO must exemplify good sportsmanship and a team oriented attitude. Just because you are a fantastic melee fighter, does not mean you will make the team if you are a poor sport or not supportive of your team. It is more important to the ACW that you are an honorable fighter and reflect well on the best values of your country. The best 5 fighters from the women’s team will make up the USA Knights, Valkyries. The best 8 fighters from the men’s team will make up the USA Knights, Striking Eagles. These teams will represent the best fighters from the ACW and the country and will be the first to get the opportunities to represent the country in an international tourney. In addition, the team will be present and fight at the following national tourney to ensure that the BEST fighters are still those chosen for the team. These teams will fight at the National Championship but will not be eligible to win as they are not a regional team. Single fighter champions from the National Tournament will also be given the opportunity to represent the country overseas, provided they follow the same guidelines as the melee fighters. Opportunities for a 10 man (15 fighters) and 16 man (21 fighters) team will also be available at certain international events. The fighters for these events will also be drawn from the best fighters who show well at nationals.

The object of this league is to provide you all with the opportunity to learn, fight, and grow in our family and to bring the very best to other areas and countries to test your skills and enjoy the fellowship of our extended fighter family and sport. I hope you all enjoy what has been provided for you. Take a moment when you have the chance to thank your leaders and support staff. No one in our league takes home a paycheck. A thanks goes a long way when we are run primarily on the goodwill of volunteers.

Additional basic information:

➡️ League membership is $100 a year (including insurance)

➡️ For support, amor smiths, and refs the membership is $50 (no fighting, still covered on the league’s insurance)

➡️ There is the option to be a competitive fighter (competes in regular competitions)

➡️ There is the option to stick to local demos and events “event fighter” (Doesn’t have to compete/travel)

➡️ Steel fighting (Buhurt) is for all body types, big or small, in shape or out of shape, you’re welcome to JOIN THE FIGHT!!!

➡️ You can train with us even if you have no interest in putting on armor to fight (form, technique, strength, and conditioning training is always available with our instructors)

The ACW is cracking down on period shoes at events. Please make sure you are working on our purchasing period shoes to wear at events. It is ok to wear what you want at practices. Events require period shoes.

Membership renewal is April first.
Don't forget to prepare for renewal so you get a full year from your membership!
