Week 7: Designed

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)

Message:
So I received the gift, I can do what I want now, right?

Does having a good attitude when you play, being respectful to your coaches, being kind to your teammates, or listening to your parents earn your way to God? No. But when we have received Jesus’ gift (see last week), we can now freely do all of those things out of love for him and others!

Jesus did not die for us simply because it was his duty. He did it out of love for us. Similarly, the good things we do should be out of love for Him.

Lie: My good works will make me righteous before God
Truth: Jesus’ perfection is mine when I trust in him and receive the gift of salvation!

Questions:
What is one way you can love God and others this week?
Are you tempted to believe that God loves you only when you do good works?

Week 6: Saved
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (ESV)

Message: 
God knew we couldn’t live up to His standard. We fail every single day and deserve to be separated from Him forever. BUT because of His great love for us, he sent Jesus to take our place. He died in OUR place because of OUR sin, and through Jesus we get to live eternally!! 

It is not enough to know there is a Christmas gift under the tree with your name on it. It isn’t yours until you receive it! Just like that, Jesus dying for our sins isn’t our gift until we believe it to be true AND invite Him to live in our hearts and rule our lives.

Truth: Jesus did EVERYTHING necessary for me to live eternally. I only need to receive this gift..
Lie: I need to fix myself before I can be deserving of Jesus’ sacrifice.
