Nothing beats a hammock and a sunset in wilderness…💕

Except maybe a kid, a hammock, and a sunset in wilderness. ❤️‍🔥

🌿 Rooted in Movement

Sometimes coming home to yourself begins with something as simple as taking one deep breath…

Movement isn’t about pushing harder or doing more. It’s about listening. It’s about honoring the body that has carried you through every season of your life.

At our Fall Women’s Retreat, we’ll move gently through yoga, walks in nature, mindful movement, and moments of stillness. Not to become someone different—but to remember who you’ve always been.

This is the first post in our Rooted In… series, where we’ll explore the eight essential areas that help us cultivate a life of true alignment.

This week, we begin with movement.

✨ How does your soul love to move?

With love,

The river flow as we followed it upstream to remote waterfall.

The trees were calling. 🌲

We spent Saturday in the Superior National Forest, hiked part on the Superior Hiking Trail (S*T) and then followed the river to a remote waterfall. 7.7 miles and 7 hours round trip, most of the time was spent rock hopping or fording the river back and forth to make our way upstream, then back to the starting point. Several pools along the way and one called us in for swim.

The destination was worth it. Think we might call this the 50 fords hike. 10/10 would recommend for the sturdy adventure seeker. Not for the meek or wobbly. We navigated miles of slippery rocks. Hardly bugs, unusual this time of year. The forest was humid and warm, the trees giving off all the alpha-pinene terpenes we could soak in.

🔥 BWCAW Reopening Update — Phase 2 Coming July 30

Big news for anyone itching to get back into the Boundary Waters. The Forest Service is planning to open 37 of the 103 entry points on July 30, covering roughly 424,231 acres (about 39% of the wilderness), assuming there's no major wildfire activity over the weekend. A final decision and implementation announcement is expected July 27.

Phase 2 builds on Phase 1 and adds a batch of new entry points, mostly in the Gunflint Ranger District, plus a few in the Kawishiwi, LaCroix, and Tofte districts.

A few of the entry points on the list: East Bearskin Lake, Sawbill Lake, Brule Lake, Kawishiwi Lake, Cross River, South Lake, and Trout Lake (day use motor only, the sole reopening in St. Louis County). Check the full list and map on the Superior National Forest alerts page before you plan anything.

A few things to keep in mind if you're heading out:
🔥 Fire restrictions remain in effect across Cook, Koochiching, Lake, and northern St. Louis counties, including nearby state forest and park land. No campfires where restricted.
🗺️ Always file a trip plan and share it with someone before you head in.
⚠️ Conditions are still changing day to day, so check current fire and access info right before you go.

This has been a tough season for the Boundary Waters, and everyone here is hoping for a smooth, safe reopening. We'll keep sharing updates as they come. Stay tuned and paddle smart out there. 🛶
