If you want to be the best, you have to learn from the best. Earlier this week, I was fortunate enough to attend a seminar taught by the legendary Muay Thai fighter Samart Payakaroon. It was an enlightening experience to have such an accomplished martial artist sharing his knowledge with us. Forever grateful for the experience.

This time last year was one of the lowest points of my life. I was in a doomed relationship, drug and alcohol abuse ran rampant in my life, and the height of the pandemic had me doubting if I’d ever pull things back together. Now, I’m in a loving and supportive relationship based on trust and growth, I run my own training business, I’ve been sober since January 1st, and at 30 years old, I’m in the best shape of my life.
Whatever your journey, whatever your struggles, keep pushing through. The power to overcome is within you, so long as you make the choice to do so. And if you need a little help along that journey, send me a DM.

Tools of the trade for today. My knee has been a little tweak since I went for a run a couple weeks ago, which seems like a fitting start to my 30’s.
•••
Warmed up with 20 band dislocates, 20 band pull-aparts out front, 20 overhead, and some combat yoga poses I learned from for stability.
•••
Main set was a kettlebell complex:
5x5 cleans/clean & presses/windmills/front squats. Full complex on one side, then switching to the other.
•••
4x7 ab wheel roll-outs. I’ve had this thing forever but never really used it, so finally breaking it in felt good.
•••
Finished off with 2x12 club halos, right-to-left and left-to-right.
•••
Been slowly stepping up jiu-jitsu training at , which has been beating me up quite nicely. This was a relatively low-impact workout to get my body moving in more familiar (and comfortable) patterns. Spent a little time foam rolling to loosen up any remaining tension in my body, and I must say it feels pretty good.
Let’s hit this weekend hard, y’all.

2020 knocked the wind out of everyone’s sails, including me. With gyms and comedy clubs closed, my two greatest passions in life were suddenly unavailable to me. I felt trapped, like so many others, and it slowly took a heavy toll on my daily life.

When the unexpected happens, you have two options. You can wallow in it, stay miserable and let it crush you, or you can dust yourself off, get back on your horse, and figure out which way to go now. The choice is yours.

Back in action with Dan Keller of the Philadelphia Gryphons RFC! Here’s what Dan has to say about training with Rick Robotin:
“Working with Rick is great, he understands my goals and built a regiment specifically for me. I was pretty intimidated about lifting in general, but I didn’t feel like I was being talked down to. His approach is about helping you find you in the gym... I’d recommend him to anybody I know, all strength and athletic levels. He’ll really work specifically on what you want and will surely motivate you to get there, with plenty of laughs along the way.”

Motivation might be bu****it, but that doesn’t mean it’s not helpful when we have it. We must always be growing and always evolving.

Taking this time to disavow any perceived associations with the so-called “QAnon Shaman” making the rounds this week. SVF is much more about building things up than tearing them down. Now, back to your regularly scheduled fitness content.
