The Philadelphia Swimming Club is the oldest swimming organization in America. The club was founded in 1890 and incorporated in 1909. Asher Cup Race.
It was founded when the Philadelphia Swimming Association split into two groups when swimming was prohibited in the Schuylkill River within city limits and they no longer could swim at the mouth of Wissahickon Creek where they were located. The Swimming Association moved into center city where they built an indoor pool and the
other group moved to Lafayette, Pa, which is now Miquon, just over the

2018 Philadelphia Swimming Club 3rd Annual Olympiad
This year’s Olympiad was not damped by the weather although several changes had to be made. Darts was moved indoors, and ping pong had to be replaced with Wii Bowling (much to the surprise and appreciation of the athletes). The 2018 contest saw 10 competitors (and one alternate) compete in the following games: Darts, 3 ball billiards, foosball, co****le, target shooting and Wii bowling.
A great time was had by all of the athletes, but honestly the most fun of the day seemed to be shooting at debris floating by the dock, from the upper deck. To my count, we shot at least 6 basket balls, two coolers, one channel marker and countless plastic bottles, cans and large logs floating by.
This year’s winners were:
Gold Medal: Mike Fink & Leo Kelly
Silver medal: Ryan Kelly & Nick Loeffler
Broze Medal: Wilhelm Rebmann, Matt Fink and Alexander “Bubbs” Sabia
Also competing were the teams of Tom Picchola & Andrew “Budha” Sabia, and Jeff Beck & Dave Harrington
We caught up with two-time Gold medalist Leo Kelly after the event and asked him about this year’s Olympiad. “There were a lot of great competitors here today, even without Gresham Cooney ( ½ of last year’s gold medal team) and Don Sabia (absent for personal reasons) competing. I was lucky enough to ride the coattails of my partner Mike Fink, his target shooting was near perfection.” said Kelly “This year, the young guns really brought their A game, I mean did you see that kid Budha Sabia bowl, his technique was amazing, he bowled like a 215 or something, unreal” Leo went on to say “Nick Loeffler and Ryan Kelly defeated us in overtime in 3 ball, and at that point we knew we had to step up our game if we wanted to be on the podium at the day’s end.”
A big thank you to all the athletes and spectators that showed up to make the day such a big success!
