For the last twenty years, the fitness industry has been telling the world that the best way to burn calories and fat is through aerobic exercise like running, step and elliptical workouts and spinning. And it's basically true that if you commit enough hours (and I mean A LOT of hours) to these types of workouts - especially when combined with low-calorie dieting - you can see a good amount of weight loss. But there are a few pretty big problems with this old way of doing things:
FIRST, you need to know that all weight is not created or lost "equally". The surprising problem with dieting and many popular exercise programs, is that they actually do the body a huge disservice by burning not just fat, but also a lot of healthy, good-looking muscle that people would be way better off KEEPING instead of losing. In fact, research shows that up to 25% of all the weight being lost out there by people who work out is LEAN MUSCLE, not fat. The results can be terrible...you certainly don't want to look (and feel) pale, sickly and weak, with a body that's out of healthy proportion due to lost lean muscle mass. This is the exact OPPOSITE of what you want to achieve by working out. NEXT, there's the problem of the body's natural adaptation to exercise. When you exercise, your body basically senses that it's under "attack". The more regular exercise you do -- especially repetitive workouts like running or treadmill work -- the more PREDICTABLE that exercise becomes. To protect itself from weight loss, your body responds by downshifting your metabolism, and defeating what you wanted to get out of your aerobic workouts in the first place. FINALLY, there's the problem of time. If you're like most of the clients we train, you've got lots of other things to do and places to be. You need to be in and out of the gym in 45 to 60 minutes maximum, and you may only have 2 to 4 days per week to exercise. Most people just don't have, and definitely don't want, to spend 15 or 20 hours a week on the treadmill. The GOOD news is that BUILT TRAINING is designed to overcome ALL of these problems. Think about what you want...
You want to look lean. You want to look fit, toned and slender, to the point where you really like your clothes and they like you. You want to look GREAT...not necessarily "ripped" (although we can DEFINITELY do that), and really healthy.
