Passing this along from Chris Bratton:
Hi everyone,
I want to help spread the word that Casey Howshall, one of the Crescent Boat Club & Roman Catholic HS family, has earned the privilege to represent the USA in the Lightweight Men's Quad at the World Championships this year.
Casey graduated from Roman in '13 and UPenn in '17. He's now in Boston working to complete a PhD while continuing to compete at the elite level. I'm blown away by his persistence in the sport as he approaches 15 years of training.
Casey had some great results while at Roman and Crescent, including placing at Youth Nationals and taking a quad to the U23 World Championships under the Crescent BC flag in 2017.
Riverside has a fundraiser going to help defray the costs of travel and training:

Donations go to Riverside BC, a non-profit organization.
I know that it would mean a lot to Casey to see support from his Crescent BC and RCHS families. Please think about giving if you can. Even simply spreading the word would be extremely helpful.
Thank you,
Chris Bratton

Dredging Update From Schuylkill Navy
Read & heed
FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION TO ALL MEMBERS AND COACHES WITHIN SCHUYLKILL RIVER-BASED ROWING/PADDING PROGRAMS
* Per our discussion yesterday, coaches/ coxswains/ bowperson of each program should review to ensure their situational awareness of all equipment on the river related to the dredging.
Key Summary:
* All boats should always keep EAST of the dredge equipment (ie, The Dredge Providence, Booster Pumps, 3 1/2 Mile Pipe (ie, keep the dredge equipment off your port side when travelling upriver).
* The pipe dynamically floats to the surface and sinks below it when material is pumping through it. It's possible to accidentally cross the pipe where it's submerged.
* If you do not have the dredge equipment (and, most importantly, the pipe) TO THE WEST OF YOU at all times, you will likely get trapped "within" the pipe.
EFFECTIVE AS OF FIRST LAUNCHING ON MONDAY MORNING JULY 17TH 2023.
* The western-most arch (typical, upriver arch) of Strawberry Mansion is CLOSED until future notice.
* ALL traffic moving upriver on the west side should move east into Lanes 5 & 6 at the 1000 m mark (middle of Gillin Boat House (SJU/SJP).
* Proceed upriver in Lanes 5 & 6, leaving Lane 4 as a Dead Lane.
* Upriver traffic may move back to the western, upriver travel lanes (Lane 7 and towards the western shore) 200 m upriver from the Dredge's location.
* ALL Downriver Traffic from Twin Stones through the upriver end of Peter's Island should be confined to ONLY Lanes 1-3, with 100% of downriver traffic moving through the Lane 1-3 arch of Strawberry Mansion Bridge.

What Damper Setting Should I Use? The damper on the side of the flywheel adjusts the airflow in and out of the flywheel on each stroke. On a higher setting, like 10, more air is allowed into the flywheel and will need to be pushed out on each stroke. On a lower setting, less air is exchanged on each stroke. The "best" damper setting...
