Wood made his 5th appearance with the Reading on Thursday in the 10-6 loss. Wood allowed a 2 run homerun in the first inning of the game but went onto settle in the rest of the way and would be the only runs he’d allow.

Jose Alvarado allowed 3 runs in his appearance in Thursday’s 6-4 loss to the Mets. Alvarado in 32 appearances this season posts a 6.58 ERA.

Since May 14th Alvarado has given up 11 runs in 12 innings. The Phillies only have one other lefty in the bullpen (Tim Mayza) after sending down Tanner Banks who also struggled posting a 5.86 ERA in 27.1 IP.

The Phillies will just need to hope Alvarado is able to reform himself in the second half. There could be some help on the way soon LHP Kyle Backhus made his fourth rehab appearance Wednesday night. The Phillies did get a nice showing from RHP Seth Johnson on Thursday’s loss striking out 2 in his appearance with some triple digit velocity. Johnson had a 1.33 ERA in 27 innings in Triple A.

Phillies drop game one of this series to the Mets and it was just not the Phillies night on the pitching side. Nola was mediocre going 5 innings allowing 2 no doubters to Juan Soto. Alec Bohm had 2 RBI on the night and was the only Phillie with 2 hits, the offense had 6 total.

Jose Alvarado has not been good on relief this season he’s got a 6.58 ERA and allowed 3 runs tonight and will get the loss.

Phillies will bounce back with Sanchez on the bump.
