The NFA isn’t dead, it’s a policy change. Proceed with caution. With everyone celebrating and posting shopping sprees, just thought I would add a bit of realistic view. My biggest concern is a change in administration = change in policy. Regardless of my personal opinions about fi****ms, the constitution, government and property lie the fact remains this policy change really only made things more complex. Yes on the face of it in most states you can now manufacture with out permission, you can buy with 4473 and a NICs like any other fi***rm but only because they aren’t enforcing the law currently still on the books. A new administration can rescind or change the policy and make them all contraband with zero amnesty. It takes an act of Congress to remove or change it. (Refer to School House Rock for explanation) This policy change is as good as the Director of ATF changing definitions of fi****ms and parts.

My point is protect yourself at all times, arm yourself with education, research your specifics and understand both implications and consequences. As always you are free to do and believe what you want.

No free rides. Everyone contributes something to the team, unit, department, group, project, or business. Don’t expect to come in and put your feet up. Everyone can contribute to the whole. Bring commitment, drive, leadership, experience, work ethic, innovation, know how, motivation, willingness to learn, time, effort, mentorship, or initiative.

Remember selection or getting hired is just the entrance fee. Rents due everyday. Add value and never accept status quo or low standards.

My son upgraded his utility belt at work. On his own accord he asked for a small trauma kit and TQ to add to his already heavily outfitted belt to be better prepared for any situation at work. They needed to be black and standard belt mounted. They also needed to be as small a footprint as possible to fit on his already crowded belt. The Blue Force Gear Micro Trauma Kit Now (MTKN) Nano holds the bare minimum he would need and coupled with a Rapid Deployment (RDTQ) pouch from Arbor Arms completes his trauma kit.

I have worked with both of these companies for years and carry their kit on my own duty belts or plate carriers so obviously I would trust them for my son to use for work also. Even though he’s not in law enforcement, these are great tools for him to carry everyday in his customer facing, large crowd job. I’m glad the training I gave him stuck enough for him to want to be prepared to help others.

Be a good dad. You don’t have to be a great dad, just show up. Be there, set a good example, listen to their stories, answer their questions, protect them, provide for them, make an effort.

I worked long days and went TDY often and I always wondered how that would affect my sons. Was I there enough to set a good example? Did I share enough life lessons to build fine young men? Do they value my advice? The worse part was I didn’t get confirmation until they both hit their 20s. I’m proud of them both and cherish our relationships very much.
