Broad street runners: as we know, race day isn’t just physical, it’s mental.

If you want to feel stronger, calmer, and more in control, training your mind is just as important as the physical work.

• Visualize it
See yourself running strong, smooth, and confident from start to finish.

• Break it down
Don’t think 10 miles. Think this mile. Then the next.

• Have a mantra
When it gets tough (because it will), your thoughts matter.
Keep it simple. Repeat it. Believe it.

The runners who stay steady mentally are the ones who finish strongest.

This is your moment. Show up. Stay in it. Finish strong.

Good luck out there.

👟What’s your mantra for race day?

A simple strategy for The Broad Street Run:

Miles 1–3 → Controlled

Miles 4–7 → Settle into rhythm

Miles 8–9 → Compete

Mile 10 → Empty the tank

Run smart early so you can run strong late. Try this breakdown on your next long run and see how it changes your pacing!

Which mile do you think will be the toughest for you this year?

If your goal for the Broad Street Run this year is simply to finish ... that is a pretty powerful goal.

Here’s how to make it happen:

-Start slower than you think you should.
-Take water early and consistently.
-Walk briefly if needed — then reset your rhythm.
-Focus on forward progress, not perfection.

Patience early makes a huge difference. Try starting your next long run a little slower and see how you feel at the end.

Save this for race week if finishing strong is your goal!

The Secret to Getting Faster? Recovery.

This isn’t optional ... it’s crucial for helping your muscles adapt, preventing injury, and actually making those hard workouts stick.

Active recovery isn’t just “rest.” It’s moving in ways that help your body reset:

-Foam roll and stretch tight hip flexors and glutes
-Go for an easy run or try a low-impact cross-training day
-Take a yoga class
-Sleep 7–8 hours (yes, really!)

Think of it as training for recovery. The smarter you are here, the stronger you’ll feel in your next run.

👉 Pick one. Do it after your next run. Let me know which 👇

3 things that make the Broad Street Run feel a lot easier:

-Practice your pace in training; know what your sustainable effort feels like.

-Stay relaxed through the shoulders and arms ... tension wastes energy.

-Run the mile you’re in ... focus on the next block, the next rhythm.

Long races are just a series of small moments done well.

Which one of these are you focusing on during your next run?

The biggest mistake runners make at the Broad Street Run?

Going out too fast.

The first few miles feel effortless: the crowds, the adrenaline, the downhill start.

But the race really begins around mile 6–7.

Smart runners:
-Start controlled
-Settle into rhythm early
-Save something for the final 5K

The runners passing people in the last 3 miles are the ones who respected the first 3.

If you're running it this year, what’s your pacing plan for the Broad Street?

03/10/2026

53 days until the Broad Street Run. If you’re running it this year, training is officially in the window where the work you do now really matters.

I’ve done a few times and it’s always one of my favorite race days in Philly ... incredible energy, amazing crowds, and such a rewarding finish.

Each time, I'm reminded that "success" looks different for every runner.

For some runners it’s a PR.
For some it’s running the whole 10 miles.
For others it’s simply crossing the Navy Yard finish line feeling strong.

10 miles is a sneaky distance: long enough that pacing matters, but short enough that you can really race it.

My biggest tip:
Pick your goal before race day.

Are you:
• Racing for time
• Running steady and strong
• Or soaking in the experience and finishing proud

When you know your goal, pacing becomes so much easier.
Define your win before the starting line.

What’s your Broad Street goal this year?
