Lets Talk About Deadliftsโก๏ธ
Deadlifts (DL) are one of my favorite exercises! Why? Deadlifts are a functional movement, meaning it helps us perform sport activities and activities of daily living (ADLs). Everyone has a different purpose for deadlift- for some it is to PR, to improve power, to reduce pain, or to be able to lift a box or case of water from the floor. Regardless of your specific goal, deadlifts are very beneficial. According to studies, DL have been found to have the greatest amount of paraspinal muscle recruitment. This is important, because those who experience LBP are likely to present with decreased multifidus activation. Many individuals with LBP also present with decreased gluteal and core strength/stability. DL help improve the strength of our posterior chain and core muscles. It is important to learn proper mechanics to reduce the risk of injury. Stay tuned for a post on how to deadlift and progressions!

Hi! ๐ I'm Dr. Arielle Coopersmith, PT, NASM-CPT, founder of . I created PHSYI[FIT] to help individuals transition from Physical Therapy to fitness, ensuring a pain-free, active life! ๐ช I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Temple University in 2018. I have since worked in outpatient orthopedics, rehabbing individuals of all ages and fitness levels, including collegiate athletes. In 2020, I decided to take a leap and quit my full-time job, to start my own company. I have since decided to rebrand to PHYSI[FIT]. I am very passionate about bridging the gap in healthcare, and providing quality care to all individuals. When I'm not working with clients, you'll find me lifting, running, hiking, traveling, spending time with family including my dog Mia, and creating jewelry.
