9/11/2001…
I was a purser for Northwest Airlines stuck in Japan with little to do except watch the horrors over and over again on CNN until air traffic in the US resumed a week later and we could come home.

Sixteen months later, I had my first panic attack standing in front of my colleagues as an annual recurrent training instructor.

The module was on the new recently implemented security protocols. Included in the module was a mandatory video which included a clip of the second plane going into the second tower.

Heart-racing, cold sweat pouring, nearly hyperventilating, I have no idea how I got through the next 45 minutes.
I was diagnosed with PTSD.
I got help.

2022…
I had led my spiritual community through the pandemic. I was exhausted on the verge of total burnout. I took six weeks off to recharge.

My first Sunday back? 9/11.

I don’t remember my message or how I got through it. I completely dissociated.
My experience of 9/11 and my experience of the pandemic had become linked.
The PTSD was retriggered.

9/11/2022 set me on a healing journey.
I did EMDR sessions weekly with therapist for almost a year. I got coaching. I leaned into my spiritual practices and prayer partners. And in summer of 2023, I finally visited Ground Zero.

For over 20 years, 9/11 has been a painful day. Some years more than others.

This year was different.

This year I found myself in a group of passion-driven entrepreneurs determined to make a positive impact in the world – a supportive community of colleagues committed to co-creation and collaboration and the passion and skills to do so.

This year was marked by joy and excitement about what is possible, and dare I day probable.

This year, the evening was capped off with a book signing event where alongside my co-authors, I signed our #1 Best Seller.

Something that I could never have dreamed of sitting in my hotel room in Osaka or even three short years ago.

This year marks a new beginning.
