Facilities Master Plan is nothing but a SCHOOL CLOSING MASTER PLAN THATS NOT EQUITABLE. Stand up fight back ! Show up and have your voices heard 📣

, Unite Here! Local 634 attended the 2026 “State of Public Education” address put on by the School District of Philadelphia. While Dr. Watlington, Mayor Parker, and other key leaders spoke about their upcoming vision for the District, we want to be very clear that Local 634 believes public education should stay public.

Too often leaders who are out of touch with on-the-ground workers make decisions that benefit the few in their circles, not the many whose lives are completely enmeshed and dependent upon the system in place. Closing schools, selling old buildings – who will these changes truly affect? The SDP is a community made up of students, Student Climate Staff, Food Service workers, teachers, cleaners, bus drivers, administrators, and much more. When schools close, workers lose. Students lose. Our community loses.

When leaders in the school district implement massive changes without alerting its workers or the Unions protecting its workers, we all lose. We really encourage our membership, and our community, to pay attention to what’s going on. Let’s not just talk amongst ourselves; let’s show up and put our feet and voices to work.
