Blowsy, spiny, voluptuous, a bit of a misunderstood outcast. Meet controversial Comfrey- poor thing, it's not her fault.
🍃
If you want to really understand the background of the controversy, the Borage (and Comfrey) episode of the archived podcast is *fantastic*. If you want to really understand Comfrey, grow some! She grows just the way you want your tissues that it heals so well to be- strong, vibrant, protective, and beautifully healthy. Comfrey leaves get HUGE and are prickly almost like a velcro, and Comfrey people are in an acute state that need some knitting back together. It's not a long term tonic plant, but rather it's like that gruff grandparent who is always there for you but really likes to be left alone the rest of the time.
🍃
This season of Holistic Lifestyling is all about getting moving, and Comfrey is one of those friends always waiting to patch you up so you can keep going. Rubbed skin off a toe in a damp shoe? Scratched yourself picking berries in the park? Reduced that mosquito bite to a scab? Fell out of the canoe and strained a rib? The list goes on and on, and Comfrey is waiting to be asked for help💛

PUPPIES!!
Can you play on the floor with a puppy? Would you think of your pelvic floor health if confronted with this cutie? Well, here's the thing- maybe you do, but you shouldn't have to!

Rolling around on the floor, and getting up OFF the floor, are activities that our bodies should be able to handles well into grandparent-age, but if you can't that may be because of your pelvic floor's strength and resilience and mobility.

Are you local? Join me LIVE AND IN PERSON (I know! It's so exciting!) at Wholistics in North Wales PA on July 13 or 27 at 7pm for a Kegels and Cocktails- a (non alcoholic) discussion all about pelvic floors- why they give us trouble, what kind of trouble, and why you don't have to live with it. Bring your questions, or submit them ahead of time if that's more comfortable.
I will bring the club soda and mocktail mixers- plus tell you about why they can actually HELP some pelvic floor issues!

Pop quiz: can you ID what's "poor" about the posture in the RIGHT side person?? To go from poor posture to a strong, supported one takes more than just "standing up straight" or "pulling your shoulders back" or even "strengthening your core".
🍃
At the end of the day, the point of exercise (at least according to me, anyway) is to be stronger than your average day, so that your average day is super easy for you to get through. Practicing these RSS steps benefits not only the parts of your body you’re working, be it limb strength line hamstrings or biceps, or core strength like your breathing muscles or pelvic floor, but it also benefits your whole self to work together in a more complete, functional way- automatically and simultaneously.

Title: Berry Season (How to Take a Walk Without Going Anywhere)
Medium: Amused Friend's Cellphone Photo
Time: Middle of a hot, hot summer day
Lessons Learned: I should bring storage containers wherever I go!
🍃
Hi I'm Paula, and I can't go outside without tasting something. I don't think it's a problem, but some of my friends think I'm weird. Want to be weird with me??
🍃
Berry season has arrived in SE Pennsylvania, and it's a very. good. year. for them. Right now and are all over the place, and my park's (aka ) are covered in a blight of some kind- but thanks to Lauren I got to taste some last week for the first time!! Soon and will be in season too. Local farms are offering U-Pick Red Rasp's and Blubes too, yummmmm.
🍃
What's in season by you? What are you looking forward to? Tell me about your local foraging opportunities!

Let’s talk toe spreaders. They’re not the first step in gaining foot mobility (ha- step! Get it? Feet?? Steps?? Ah boy.) But they are the most asked about step. How do you choose a pair? When should you wear them? For how long? I’ve got answers for you.

Discussions have been had, plans laid, decisions made... DIY Herbalism is back! Lauren and I first collaborated on this project in 2019, learned lots of flexibility lessons as we wrapped up our first class last spring and ultimately cancelled our next class ☹☹, and now we've hammered out the details for our 2021-2022 class! We're a match made in an herb garden (aka heaven) if I do say so myself. (And I came away from our planning session with a fresh bottle of my favorite bitters- so excited!)
🍃
DIY Herbalism is a 9-month, hands-on extravaganza of herbal learning, taking place at the Arete barn in Chester County PA. Our first class will be in September- are you ready?? Early details will go out to the DIY Herbalism waiting list later today, and all the details will be made public by July 1. Jump on the waitlist to grab an early spot before they fill up! www.paulaswellness.com/diyherbalism

Herbalist’s confession time- I don’t really like Nettles.
🍃
Now, you either gasped in horror or took that in blankly. See, in the herbal world, are Queen. However, I just don’t enjoy how they taste, and this is SERIOUS sacrilege.
🍃
I do, though, know just how magnificent Nettles are. So when I felt myself getting low- tired, lethargic, sad, cold- and put it together with a heavy cycle and bumping up my exercise, I realized I needed Nettles.
🍃
An “overnight infusion” is a classic way to drink your Nettles. You just pour boiling water over a pile of Nettles, fresh or dried, or a handful of teabags, and let it sit overnight. All that time extracts so many minerals from this truly wonderful plant, including Iron. So much Iron. Yeech.🤢
🍃
“Holistic Lifestyling” is my way of explaining how connected and interdependent you are, like a whole garden right there inside your skin. When it comes to caring for yourself, there’s no magic pill- and part of the reason is that regardless of how “perfect” an herb or an exercise might be, if you can’t or won’t do it, it won’t help you at all- that’s in the Lifestyle part.
🍃
So I made my overnight Nettle infusion, and then heated it up this morning with a good handful of Hibiscus from I knew I’d never drink it plain, but add something red and tart and I’m a happy camper. Part of working with me is letting me help you find what makes you a happy camper too, so the “doing” of our work is the least-hard part of it all!
