Local 8 had 2 Scaffold and Tower climbing classes on 3/10 & 3/11 at The Pine Box Studios. Participants were given classroom instruction on OSHA Scaffold standards, then had 4 hands on sessions including: Erecting and Climbing Scaffolding – (Learning proper techniques for building and climbing scaffolding)
Tower Climbing (Participants will climb a 45-foot tower)
Beam Moving (Learning how to safely move beams while handling truss setups) Headblock Station (Practice pulling chains over headblocks), and a Pinning Station – (Pinning trusses together with both hands free while in the air). We had about 100 people attend. Safety First!

Local 8 hosted 2 Concert Audio classes at The Met on 3/6 and 3/7 on how to mic up bands, and do changeovers for festival style concerts. We had over 40 people attend over 2 days sharpening their skills for live event productions.

Local 8 had a Theatrical Rigging classes at The Met on 2/19 & 2/20 where over 80 people attended classes learning the ins and outs of rigging in a Theatrical Setting.

Rigging Rescue, Open Beam/ Bucket rigging at The Liacouras Center. Participants were rigging from an Open Beam in the celling of the arena, as well as learn the rescue system used at the facility. They will also learn about how to rig from a Lift, approaching the points from underneath rather then above. This class required attendees to walk out onto an I Beam over 50 feet in the air, testing their tolerance for working at heights.
This class counts for 3 of the 7 Required rigging classes to be placed onto the Local 8 Rigging List after evaluation.

The three classes participants will get credited are:
· Rigging Rescue
· Arena Rigging
· Lift Rigging

This class was held twice, on January 22nd and 23rd of 2025.

Introduction to Stagecraft class were held on January 13th and 14th 2025 at The IATSE 8 Union hall. These hands-on introductory courses are designed for individuals new to the live events industry, offering a comprehensive overview of the key elements involved in stagecraft. Students will be introduced to the fundamental terminology, equipment, and tools used in live event production, including stage design, lighting, sound, rigging, and more. Through practical exercises, participants gain firsthand experience in critical tasks such as knot tying, hanging lighting fixtures, and materials handling. Emphasis will be placed on safety, teamwork, and the technical skills needed to support live performances. By the end of the course, students will have both the theoretical knowledge and practical experience necessary to contribute effectively to the production process in theater, concerts, festivals, and other live events. Ideal for those interested in pursuing a career or expanding their knowledge in the live events industry.

Basic Rigging and Fall Protection at The Liacoiras Center held on Jan 20th and 21st 2025. This is the first of 7 courses people are required to attend before being evaluated and placed on the Local 8 Rigging list. We had over 85 people attend this class over a 2 day period learning the importance of Fall Protection, Fall Arrest, Harness inspection. and how to build steel. They learn all the rigging symbols, or as most like to say... "hieroglyphics" as well as how to tie bowlines, Clove hitches and other knots. Safety First!

2 great Tower and Scaffold Climbing classes were held the past two days at Wiggins Park. Thank you to all the instructors and attendees for 2 great days. We set up three stations training everyone on climbing towers, climbing in roofs, working while up in the air, and build scaffolding. Followed by an online ZOOM class covering OSHA and ASNI Scaffold standards because as always, Safety first! Local 8 is Getting ready for a busy summer of outdoor shows!
