Fantastic story about our partnership with The School of Ballet Arizona to offer hoop dance classes for Native American youth in the Phoenix area! It is amazing to watch a program I helped create (now entering its 3rd year) take on a life of its own in the community and so rewarding to help youth stay connected to their Native heritage. So proud of all involved in making this class come to life including, the Ballet Arizona Tribal Nations Advisory Council and staff, and our current hoop dance master Eva Bighorse. Thank you so much to Aliyah Chavez and Max Montour from Indian Country Today for understanding what this program is all about!

Positions of Ballet

Happy !

During a student's ballet training, the most essential technique they will learn is the 5 basic ballet positions. Positions one-five are important as each movement in ballet begins and ends with one of them.
The 5 basic positions are the building blocks for a ballet dancer and set the foundation for everything they do. The most important thing to remember when setting up for all five basic positions is your feet turnout.

Can you name the 4 positions that our PPP students are demonstrating?
