Thank you to everyone who came out to support Third Space Dance Project's Holiday Party! And, a big thank you to SANTOS for providing incredible live music, our performers, volunteers, and our staff!

Firstly, thank you so much for coming out on a cold, rainy Saturday night when staying in probably would have been an easier choice! Also, you dealt with downtown parking - that plus the rain, means you are HARDCORE dance and arts patrons and supporters, so thank you!

The way arts exist in our society is through generous support, sponsors, grants, and folks like you to make the magic happen. Creating and experiencing creative work and live performance is not something that easily makes an income because it doesn't make a profit. So why do we do it at all? We do it because we want to share our stories. We believe dance is valuable. Dance is a nonverbal language, and it is a way to communicate human emotions and the human experience. Can you imagine a world without live performance or dance? If dancers only did it for the money, then no one would be doing it!

I have often found myself in an audience, feeling so inspired, overcome with emotion, or just overcome with the beauty of what I am witnessing. Dance has changed me as a person - it has allowed me to see people and situations beyond simple black and white labels and polarized view points. I can see the in between. I value and respect opinions and experiences that are different than mine, and I am curious and try to ask more questions. Dance develops a lens and ability to connect and find common ground, even among differences. What a beautiful thing that is to have in a world that often tells us we are too different to be friends or share a smile with someone because of differences of perspective or who they voted for or what have you! Dance is a bridge.

Thank you for supporting Third Space Dance Project in our mission to bridge difference, connect our community, and give artists a platform to continue to investigate their identity and tell their stories. We need people like you who show up to support dance in your community. YOU are the heroes of the world in my eyes. You give your time to support local artists even when its not convenient. You believe it matters, its important, because it is!

AUDITION SCHEDULE!!!

Third Space 2022-2023 season audition is next Saturday!

We have some amazing choreographers lined up, and, we just announced one of our festival choreographers who recently got back from Europe after dancing with Netherlands Danse Theatre for a couple of years, Jordan Pelliteri, and she is looking for dancers to work with! These are professional level projects, meaning the artists creating the work identify as professional artists in the field and have years of experience running their own companies and/or creating professional work. I created Third Space so there is a spot for professionals to be in dialogue with each other and we can create work with each other, perform for each other, and just give each other support! This opportunity is specifically creating space for experienced educators and dancers to continue to push our artistry and be active in the field. I hope you consider coming & joining us for a project this season!

Audition Schedule:
3:00-3:15 pm: Choreographers introduce themselves and their work, what they are looking for, rehearsal commitment, etc.

Dancers will be given a form to fill out where they will indicate if they are open to be cast in anything or if they are auditioning for specific choreographers.

3:15 - 3:30 pm: Community warm-up led by Angelica DeLashmette

3:30-3:50 pm: Ellen Sickenberger

3:50-4:10 pm: Landon Guinn

4:10-4:30 pm: Lisa & Step (Desert Dance Theater)

4:30-4:50 pm: Sam Arrow

4:50-5:00 pm: Information about Caitlin Grace Rose who is casting and not able to attend audition, and Jordan Pelliteri who is also casting and not able to attend audition. Viewing sample of their work and phrase work/movement research for their new projects will be emailed to dancers who attend audition.

✨ Audition to be a part of ‘s inaugural season! Choreographers will be casting for Twilight Fringe & our Festival in June!

👉 Who is this for? Intermediate/advanced and professional level dance artists and movement artists

👉 What genre/style? The choreographers are creating work within the Contemporary dance form lineage/tradition. Contemporary dance approaches can involve a diversity of movement vocabularies and techniques. The style is often unique to each choreographer. Thus, if you are a Street dancer and/or contemporary dancer or have experience with another style of dance, come through!

⭐️ The audition may involve phrase work (movement combination) improvisational prompts/tasks (if you’re a street dancer, think freestyle), floorwork, and a discussion about what the artist plans to create and who they want to work with.

✨ Ultimately, the audition is about YOU as a dancer having agency in what kind of work you are interested in being a part of and what kind of commitment you are able to make to a professional project. Just show up even if you just want to see what kind of opportunities and projects there will be!

Shauna Meredith and Angelica DeLashmette have collaborated to bring dancers and educators in the Valley a workshop that will dive deep into the functionality of the pelvis and hip joints to help you expand your capacity for movement expression and decrease injury and pain! This is a deep dive into functional anatomy, biomechanics, strength, mobility, and injury prevention of the pelvis and hip joints for dancers! We will be providing you with exercises and tools to take with you on your dancing journey and you better believe we will be doing some juicy big moves dancing to apply the tools we explored during the workshop!
