Using a yoga strap around your raised foot makes this pose accessible to even those with the tightest hamstrings. Let the head of your femur settle into the hip socket as you stretch the leg so that both hips stay grounded on the floor.

Work with your breath so the hamstrings can release.

Vintage Zen Yoga in #Phoenix #Arizona will teach modifications to the cobbler's pose. This is a particularly good pose to stay in for a few minutes at a time. If you find this position extremely uncomfortable, there are a few things your can try.

Sitting up on a folded blanket can help because it raises the hips above the knees. Placing a block under each knee for support is also an option, but make sure you lower the blocks incrementally over time so that you see your progress.

There are four great reasons for starting yoga at Vintage Zen Yoga in #Phoenix #Arizona.

1. Balance. In yoga class, you’ll wind up doing a lot of balancing postures. Older women have trouble with balance.

2. Lubrication. Our older bodies need to move around to loosen up and to oil those joints.

3. Strength. Muscle mass declines as you age. It’s a proven fact.

4. Peace of mind. I think some of this comes with age anyway, but why not put down that smartphone and get on the mat.
