Huge Shout Out to my Client Sharon!!!!
I train with Brittany and a bunch of other wonderful YOUNG women on Saturday mornings. Since my experience with other lifters is limited, just having the other women around is a joy. As an older woman (75 years old) who cannot "compete" with these youngsters, it's wonderful to see what youth can do. When you train with Brittany, she watches every little move you make. The slightest correction in stance or where you grip the bar or how you hold your breath can result in pounds more for the lift. As a trainer, Brittany is generous with her time, kind to the max and very motivating.

The Return…

It’s been two years since stepping on the platform. The longest “break” I’ve ever taken from the sport since entering it in 2015

Between the pandemic and straight up burnout, the break was necessary on many levels

But now it’s time

Time to return to the platform in 2022

AND

The stage 🤯

I’ve set two goals for myself next year

To compete in powerlifting AND a physique show in the wellness division

Tackling the two goals will take strategy, focus, and a completely different perspective than one I’ve used in the past

Because of this I knew I had to reach out to my coach @cthefudge to help in this endeavor

“I could never do that”

I’ve heard this a number of times over the years from people who have watched videos like this

They see some perceived big amount of weight on the bar or some other incredible physical accomplishment and immediately say “I could never do that”

What they don’t see is where these people started

They didn’t start with hundreds of pounds on their back, they probably started holding dumbbells doing the same circuit classes you’re doing

They didn’t start by looking like a fitness model, they probably started much like you, wanting to look and feel different

They didn’t start running ultra marathons, they started by running one mile

So before you say “I can’t do what they’re doing” think “what did they do to start doing what they’re doing”

The answer may surprise you

What is a 3 Tier Nutrition Approach?

Clients who work with me will often hear of this concept called “the 3 tier approach”

🍽Tier 1: Creating habits. This is the stage where we are after creating consistency and small changes that elicit the biggest difference. For some people, this means simply drinking more water or incorporating more servings of vegetables. The focus is on the basics

🍽Tier 2: Client-created meal plans: Moving away from simple, we create more structure by collaborating on a meal plan that suits the client. The focus here is to create a menu of macro-balanced meals the client can choose from each day

🍽Tier 3: Counting calories or macros: being more dialed in, counting or flexible dieting allows for complete oversight on the energy balance equation to be practiced. Although this tier requires the client to “think more” through tracking practices, research has consistently shown the long term benefits of this approach to be great

It’s not “this” or “that”

The notion of being one thing or the other is not only complete trash but it’s conformity to standards by society

I’m here to remind you

Be your own dam standard

The standard that says “I can be physically strong and emotionally compassionate”

The standard that says “I’m gonna lift heavy s**t and still rock a little black dress”

The standard that says “I live by no one’s standards other than my own”

Disobeying standards, “suppose to’s”, and societies expectations is the first step to becoming YOUR best, strongest self

So drop those BS standards below and release them once and for all!

Build with Blocks

Using blocks during training can provide a variety of benefits to every trainee

Whether it’s a beginner learning the movement or a seasoned veteran looking to implement intelligent overload strategies, blocks are a great “tool in the toolbox”

Much of what real trainers and coaches do is just that. They build a tool box of strategies and knowledge throughout their education and experience. They are then able to pick the appropriate “tool” for each client and situation based on what is and where one is headed

Indulged a bit too much this weekend? Here are three tips to get yourself back on the saddle

💥Reflect- being as honest and non-judgmental as possible look at why it happened. Was it a failure to plan? Did you simply need to YOLO it for a day or two? Whatever the reason is, learn the lesson

💥Set Up Wins- One of the best strategies I’ve used personally and with clients is to constantly seek ways to “win”. Small wins add up: not only to move closer to our goals but to train the subconscious mind to seek success and positive

💥Move the f*ck on and forward- sometimes s**t happens and you just gotta move the f*ck on. Adopting this mindset after the reflection and intentions moving forward are set helps eliminate self blame and judgement

Complexes

In training there are exercises called complexes

These are exercises with multiple exercises strung together to form one big movement

Complexes are great for adding some variety in a training block or for conditioning purposes

Complexes are NOT great when it comes to adopting a true strength training program

The clients I work with have many things in common and one of those is this idea that complex is better

Complexity creates confusion

Complexity discourages consistency

When it comes to training things don’t have to be complicated but they should be calculated

There’s a huge misconception on the premise of weight, specifically when it comes into play when we’re talking about ones body

Without writing a novel let’s debunk a few things:

❌WEIGHT IS NOT THE SAME AS FAT

❌WEIGHT LOSS IS NOT LINEAR

Ones weight is really a combination of many factors and those fluctuations can directly reflect these factors

Inflammation: this means the water WEIGHT associated with eating certain foods, drinking certain drinks, and hormonal changes that occur naturally in the body. Discussing inflammation in terms of weight can be a whole post in itself

Unresolved Trauma: the WEIGHT associated with various events in our lifetime can accumulate if they are not felt, expressed, and healed which leads to the final point

Suppressed Emotions: “The body stores what is not expressed”. The weight of emotions don’t just go away, the body finds places/ways to store them but like a pressure cooker, at some point we gotta release the lid and let that bitch release

Weight is more than ones body composition and being ones best, strongest self is MORE than what the physical body is doing

So for anyone needing this message today, save yourself more stress and anguish. Release the weight of that number we call our weight. Look deeper at how you can lose what no longer serves 💜
