Whether you’re looking for self-defense, sport BJJ or just a great way to get fit while learning to defend yourself this will be a good school for you. We are a club, not a commercial business. Having operated as both, we much prefer the club atmosphere. Our priority is to train productively and safely in a fun, friendly environment. As such, we keep a close eye on the make-up of our school and h

Grand Opening Coming Soon!!
We have signed the lease for the new facility which is located at 4015 N. 16th St, SE corner of 16th St and Indian School. We are shooting to open 2-1-2021!!!
Attention All Gracie Arziona Student, Coaches, Family and Friends.
It is with a very heavy heart that I am announcing that we will be temporarily closing our doors - effective Sunday 12/13/20. Saturday 12/12/20 will be officially our last day of classes in this building. With the significant rise in Covid cases in our city and state, I can no longer in good conscience stay open. Recently we have had several students test positive, and while we have moved quickly to notify and limit the spread it seems we are at a point that it is no longer easy to control. I take our members health and safety very seriously and can no longer allow the gym to be a place that could potentially expose anyone.
As you all know by now, we have sold the building and are in the process of signing a new lease. However, given the current state of affairs it would be difficult to envision a safe reopening before sometime in February and depending on all the variables involved maybe even March. My goal is of course to reopen as soon as it is safely possible to do so. I will be looking into the status of every membership and will again shut off any future draws until you return. Any members that need fees prorated if you drafted recently will be addressed individually.
This is definitely not goodbye, just see you in a little while. I can’t thank you enough for all of your years of dedication to our gym. I will be at the gym tomorrow for anyone who wants to come take pictures before we move and for people to pick up any personal belongings. I will also be there at various times throughout the week, but please get in touch with me first to make sure I am there. We will not be holding classes, but feel free to wear your gi if you want to take pictures in front of our Gracie Arizona shark. Please keep checking in on the Gracie Arizona website and page for updates, and you can always contact me directly at 602-810-5765 or [email protected]. Happiest of holidays from our Gracie family to yours.
Here we go again. Looks like tonight is our last class for 30 days. I’m looking at details but it’s not looking good.
I’m sorry everyone.
June 29th to July 5th class schedule. Conor Waffle is back as is Kevin Bunyan!!
June 22nd-28th class schedule. Sorry for all the confusion. *Update* there will be no judo this week.
GRACIE ARIZONA OPENING SATURDAY MAY 30TH
New Opening Date: Gracie Arizona Will Open Saturday, May 30th For Adult Classes; Kid Classes To Resume Saturday, June 13th.
As all of you know, the decision of how and when to open has been a difficult one. After speaking with several medical professionals, we have decided to open without restrictions on training partners. However, the remaining policies will be in place as outlined in the COVID-19 waiver you will all be asked to sign prior to any training. I will post the necessary paperwork online for everyone to print, complete and sign. If you can have all of the information completed prior to coming in, it will make the check-in process much easier.
Please go to www.graciearizona.com to download the civid waiver.
Gracie Arizona is OPENING!!
June 1st, 2020 we will begin adult classes with a modified schedule. We will be requiring members to adhere to a strict check-in process and to choose a limited partner group to train with for the first two weeks. We’re hoping by June 15th we will be able to open with a full schedule of classes (including kids classes) as well as no partner restrictions.
1.Members must get their temperature checked before grabbing their attendance card. Any person with a temperature over 100 degrees will have five minute to cool off inside the building and be rechecked. If after five minutes your temperature doesn’t drop below 100 degrees you will be asked to leave the building.
2. Please keep your training partners in mind. If you feel any symptoms or think you may be getting sick, STAY HOME! This doesn’t mean just for Covid-19, a cold, the flu or even ringworm, STAY HOME!
3. A group of four to six training partners can be chosen by members or will be assigned. This group of partners are the only people you may drill with and train with for the first two weeks. We will reassess by the 15th and based on new covid-19 cases or breakouts in the gym we may open all classes without restrictions.
4. All members will be required to wash their hands thoroughly before stepping on the mat to train.
5. Mats will be mopped after every class.
6. Uniforms must be washed after every use.
7. The 15’x15’ “rings” on the mats will be strictly utilized. Drilling, sparring, and warm ups are to be conducted as close to the center of each “ring” as possible.
8. Coaches walking the mat to instruct students will be required to wear a mask.
9. As much as possible, social distance - no hugging, touching, standing closer than you have to with members and coaches to limit exposure.
10. If at all possible, come dressed out and leave in your gi bottoms. If you don’t need to change, do not come into the gym more than 10 minutes before your class.
11. A Covid-19 waiver must be signed before anyone can start training.
12.The first two weeks of June will be free, all memberships will start being drafted on June 15th.
To all of our members,
After much heavy consideration and discussion with the coaches, I have decided not to open Gracie Arizona just yet. The guidelines put forth by the health department focus on a "typical gym atmosphere" and still call for social distancing within those gyms, which we cannot do with jiu jitsu no matter how many precautions we take. I have to put the safety of our members first and I am concerned about the consequences of opening too soon given the unavoidable close contact involved with jiu jitsu. I understand that there are several other jiu jitsu gyms opening, and the fact that I am not may cause frustration for some members, but I hope you understand that I have to put the health and safety of the gym first. I will be contacting the gyms that do open over the next couple of weeks to see how the health of their members is. If there is not a spike of covid-19 by June 1st, we will do a free two week soft reopen with certain safety precautions in place (which will be shared soon). If by June 15th no issues arise we will then re-open the gym with normal schedule and training. I appreciate your patience and understanding with all of this.
Hello RGAZ Members,
Our two week quarantine is reaching its end. Unfortunately, what started as a precaution for our members is now mandated by the government. We will remain closed until this pandemic is at a level for which it has been deemed safe to reopen. The effects of COVID-19 are taking a financial toll on many. Given that in the beginning we were hoping this may only last a couple of weeks, we did not cancel any of the membership dues and used the time to make improvements and repairs to the gym that were difficult to complete otherwise given that we have classes 7 days a week throughout the day, and rarely close, even on most holidays. Now that it appears we will be closed possibly another 2-4 weeks (no one knows with any certainty), I am reaching out to each and every one of you to ask for your continued support if and only if, this will not be a financial burden on you. I completely understand if a member or family has to cancel given their own financial burden and will fully support their decision. I am hoping that this will not last more than one additional month, and as I am sure many of you are aware, mortgage payments, insurance coverage, utilities, etc. all continue to have to be paid by small businesses. Additionally, I have continued to pay our instructors for both Jiu Jitsu and Crossfit to help them maintain their family's needs and will continue to do so as long as this is possible.
Here are a few ideas I have to help repay your generosity.
If you allow your dues to continue I can offer a private at a later date from one of our amazing instructors in exchange for the month that was lost.
Starting in May I can reduce your dues by $10/month until the month owed is repaid.
I am currently putting together a YouTube channel for our members to stay connected and continue your learning.
I am making improvements to our gym while we are shut down.
I am beyond grateful for your support in this tough time and will support your decision in the same way you have supported me and Gracie Arizona Jiu Jitsu.
Effective immediately Gracie Arizona will be closed until March 30th. COVID-19 is a legitimate threat and we must do our part. I haven’t taken this decision lightly and have been in contact with several in the medical field and feel this is the correct decision.
I apologize for any inconvenience and have our gym and our second family at heart. I hope you all understand and wish good health to you and all of yours through these uncertain times.
