Listening to a TED Talk about the way we look at life and the questions we ask each other presume that we only work (in whatever capacity) to stroke our egos and to have others congratulate us for our work.
I believe that for most of us there is something that we do, not because we must, not because we seek recognition, not for wealth but instead "just because" ...
I took a moment to think about this and want to share with you WHY I SING
I sing because there is joy in music that I cannot touch in any other way. I sing because I feel like it allows me to fly free like the birds, to swim far like the fish and to roar loudly like the elephant. I sing because it stirs my soul, encourages me and just makes me feel good. So, as I get older and my voice loses tonal quality - I will continue to sing. As I allow the torch to pass to younger worship leaders - I will continue to sing. Even thought I have never thought I would become a famous musician paid by concert halls full of people - I will continue to sing.
From one of those songs I learned long ago - "I sing because I'm happy. I sing because I'm free". And even if this world were to try and imprison me I would sing because my soul is liberated by song!
So now, I invite you to share with us "Why do you ...?" You fill in the blank. WHY DO YOU WRITE? WHY DO YOU SKY DIVE? WHY DO YOU FISH? It doesn't matter what the thing is just share one of your true motivations.
If FB is meant to be a community, let's make it one in this space.
ted.com Elizabeth Gilbert muses on the impossible things we expect from artists and geniuses -- and shares the radical idea that, instead of the rare person "being" a genius, all of us "have" a genius. It's a funny, personal and surprisingly moving talk.

The world is constantly changing around us. Not only the physical world but the social landscape we live in is in constant flux. Many of us never thought we would see the day when marriage was legal for same gender couples in the US, yet that day has come.
Now, as boomers we continue to face the changes in society and we must deal with the effects of a lifetime of barriers that have impacted us in ways we could not anticipate when we were young and just seeking to live our lives.
Some of us have maintained solid employment through the years, saving through personal or employer sponsored programs toward retirement while others have found our livelihoods jeopardized by prejudice and discrimination. Now we must consider the future. The best way to do that is to assess where we are at this point in our lives and, if we haven't already done so, make a plan for the best future possible.
Whether you work with an attorney to develop legal protections for your family, an accountant to set-up financial plans that are doable, or a transition coach to plan ongoing supports as you age the secret is that You have to take the lead.
Don't let your life be driven by the situations around you. Take Charge now!
[10/04/15] 45 Years serving the LGBTQ Community in Phoenix! We are looking forward to you celebrating with us next weekend!
I am writing here because I know that you care about this community (Phoenix) and that you are part of the community that serves everyone without regard to sexual orientation or gender identity. My church (the one I co-pastor) is celebrating 45 years serving the LGBT community in Phoenix. I was at the Gay and Le***an Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce and Phoenix Pride Celebration early this year. Their 35 year accomplishment is excellent and well worth celebrating. But before Phoenix could birth the oldest chamber serving businesses that serve the GLBT community the groundwork was established by the churches and organizations that brought this community together.
I am asking that members of this community will join with us in celebrating 45 years of LOVE shared with the LGBT Community initially and now with all disenfranchised residents of Phoenix and beyond.
We are seeking sponsors for this celebration (see the webpage below). We are also seeking to expand our services to the community. Please consider offering your support and attending some part of our celebration!
We reach the world with LOVE!

Spotlight Youth Theatre located at 10620 N. 43rd Ave., Glendale, AZ. presents The Laramie Project.
THE STORY: In October 1998 a twenty-one-year-old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten and left to die, tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. His bloody, bruised and battered body was not discovered until the next day, and he died several days later in an area hospital. His name was Matthew Shepard, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay.
Moises Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. They conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of the town. Some people interviewed were directly connected to the case, and others were citizens of Laramie.
THE LARAMIE PROJECT is a breathtaking theatrical collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.
The Laramie Project opens Friday, February 21st and runs through Sunday, March 2nd. Shows are Fridays 7pm, Saturdays 2pm & 7pm, and Sundays 2pm. Tickets are $14. http://www.spotlightyouththeatre.org/
If you haven't seen this play see it this year. It is powerful and moving. Based on an event we should never forget.

1 - Buy Safe Toys
If you plan to buy toys for the kids in your life, choose age-appropriate toys and look for labels with safety advice. For young children, avoid toys with small parts, sharp edges, and electric toys that can heat up. Always purchase safety gear in addition to
sports-related gifts or ride-on toys, such as bicycles or skateboards. Get additional toy safety tips from the Consumer Product Safety Commission website.

Altering the "Treaty for the Blind" would be a huge affront to people around the world with print disabilities because it would restrict copyright exceptions, meaning fewer titles could be made into accessible formats, such as audiobooks.
You can fight for your right to accessible material by signing a petition on the White House's website that asks President Obama to support the "Treaty for the Blind".
At the time of this post the petition still requires over 90,000 signatures to reach the 100,000 needed by June, 22, 2013. Each person's support helps, so please take the time to sign the petition and share it with your friends and family.
petitions.whitehouse.gov Less than 1% of printed works globally are accessible to the blind. This is because laws around the world bar printed material from being turned into formats useable by the blind and visually impaired, or for such material to be shared across borders.
