Jillian Michaels Says the "Logic" Behind CrossFit Training Doesn't Make Sense

https://www.shape.com/fitness/trends/jillian-michaels-crossfit-training-logic

🔥 I’ve expressed these same feelings about 10 years but with more specific detail 😂

My opinion

Yes CrossFit has many disadvantages and limitations And deter mental consequences. I’ve had close friends who were regularl CrossFit Participants who took the exercising seriously, that messed up their body’s badly in numerous of ways. The common injuries were always (shoulders, low back and knees)

🔥From a bio mechanics perspective every single exercise in CrossFit takes place on the Sagittal Plane which goes against the human organism’s primary functional cycle of motion.

Why?

👉 the body was solely designed for propelling itself through space using velocity’s coupled with what is known as the “gait cycle”. Basically movements such as running, jumping, throwing, climbing, crawling. This means multiple planes of motion, parabolic forces coupled with the primary bio mechanics are needed in order to accomplish this. And Crossfit being a stationary training regimen in which the body is always in a bi- lateral stance, moving up and down on the sagittal plane with the arms also moving up and down or front to back in the sagittal plane disconnects the primary systems that move the body which are known as the core systems. in other words, the body was meant to rotate in the trunk and connect the arms and legs to move also in a unilateral fashion, and CrossFit movements completely disconnect the core systems from the rest of the body. This explains why many cross bitters have lower back problems and knee problems. This has nothing to do with being strong or fit by the way.

🔥From a physiology perspective Crossfiters often very prone to injury due to the fact that the workouts are always for a long length of duration. Another factor that factors into the injury occurrence is the over training of the muscular system in which CrossFitters are burning tons of calories while lacking adequate nutrition due to their popular Paleo diet in which they are starving their muscles of nutrients thus not allowing their bodies to adequately recover from previous training resumes. Don’t get me wrong I’m cross fitters not being in shape, I’ve known plenty who have very good aerobic endurance But it’s only within their type of workouts where they can control their own pace. I could share some stories from my own personal experience where I put crossfitters through one of my training resumes and let’s just say they crumpled quickly.

🔥Another factor to reoccurring injuries in CrossFitters who are inexperienced in general exercise movements, or.Don’t know how to properly move their bodies, or Who have muscular imbalances, Who try to perform complex exercises such as Olympic lifts or muscle ups often find themselves sitting on the sidelines with a rehabilitating injury. Especially when they’re trying to muscle through the fatigue factor when they spent 10 minutes trying to clean and jerk 100 pounds as many reps as possible (amrap) and their form gets worse and worse with each rep.

🔥 CrossFit Foundation perspective

CrossFit gyms have become very popular across the United States but have dwindled away in popularity. None of them have any system or plan of attack when it comes to doing training resumes other than the specific exercise selection and how many reps, or how many minutes. This is like building a house with no blueprint. Instead of breaking the ground laying out the concrete, etc. they just start by taking wood and nailing it together and they don’t even realize where that piece is going to fit in to the overall strategy.

🔥Olympic lifting is a Sport within itself

Olympic lifting is a very technical skill set in which the best Olympic lifters started when they were just babies and trained by real coaches who live in breathe Olympic weightlifting Solely. They exercise in Olympic lifting require a lot of flexibility in the knees and hips and levator scapula and shoulders.

Olympic lifting is first and foremost a speed strength sport it requires optimal timing both mentally and physically for an athlete to snatch weight off the ground and rock underneath it as if the bar travels over head. One slightest mistake and you will find yourself in a serious problem or even paralyzed if you have an accident when that bar falls on top of your head.

I’ve seen CrossFitters who can’t even squat or deadlift their own body weight, yeah but they are trying to clean and jerk or snatch 80 to 90% of their body weight. That is just absolutely ridiculous. I remember When I used to get questions from some CrossFit or’s who were friends of mine and they would ask me “how come I’m not getting any stronger in my Olympic lifts?” I simple answer often was “you guys don’t understand the Science of strength and efficient programming.”

coaching is as ridiculous as trying to get a deep tissue massage through a zoom chat

Here’s are some facts and realities the Facebook Fitness Industry can’t help you with

10 areas of What Online Training Can’t Do For Anyone

1. Can’t guide and position someone’s form in specifics
2. Can’t move a client like a puppet when needed for guidance
3. Can’t correct bio mechanics nor teach parabolic body system to do so
4. Can’t correct physiology imbalances
5. Can’t assist clients in maximum strength exercises
6. Can’t undo overactive muscle groups
7. Can’t push clients limitations when needed
8. Can’t monitor body composition regularly
9. Can’t teach specific performance adaptations
10. Can’t motivate and inspire clients assertively

Client 3 Months Transformation in weight loss, strength
endurance and most important of all, posture...

During the lockdown I had acquired some new clients that i felt were a good fit for my both my business motto and a candiate for wanting a serious shift in their lives in both mental and phsyical health. I don't just take in person who asks for my help. They are qualifed first to see if they are the right fit for me.

So here we have a male subject who's in their mid 50's, who has never really pursued any form of fitness regime. He came to me with a titanic size of problems, some being chronic pains due to skeletal-muscular imbalances that have taken a set for 10-20 years. That is very difficult to undo but can be done. Why coping with other issues such as, being overweight, mobilty restrictions, lack of energy, self-esteem, life purpose and phsyical pain.

In working with this subject 4 days per week with daily homework assignments the journey begins.

They started with a body weight of 208 lbs (top photo). Notice the postural imbalances. We also have documented videos (still in edit process) of movement complications to improved dunctional movement too.

The bottom photo shows significant changes from posture to weight loss. At 16 weeks the subject holds a body weight of 185lbs (reducing body fat to 20 %) (started at 30% body fat) and displays a more symmetrical posture.

I might add not only did their physical health change but so did their personal relationships with family and co-workers as well. When I say change I mean they attracted and increase of love and self - approval due to the mental shift in recognizing self-sabotaging thought patterns which directly effect a person's physiology. A knowingness of "I am" this and "not that".

From my experience and understanding "overweight and obesity" issues stem from disapproving thoughts and beliefs which over time change our perception of ourselves and our outlook at life. This what I refer to as "mental illness" that i=causes our bodies physiology to change. Some people try to change their unhealthy habits by just solely focusing on trying to change their body's image and often have very little to no success. While other times if you really see what you are doing with your mind you can change your thinking and the physical symptoms will correct themselves automatically to the extent you are willing to allow the process to happen.

So as I keep working with this subject we will continue to keep shaving off layers of both conflicting mental and phsyical patterns.

🔥Body directional force- In order for the body generate force it has to use some method of direction to achieve this. There are 3 ways the body generates power (locomotion, rotation, inclination)

👉Training with classical barbell exercises (bench, press, squat, deadlift, clean n jerk, snatches), and their advantages and disadvantages to using them as a primary method of developing power, balance and movement for martial arts. The primary advantage of using classical barbell exercises is it’s proven to increase maximal muscle contraction which translate into strength. The major reason for this is All barbell lifts happen on the sagittal plane, in a bilateral stance. The sagittal plane is the only plane in where external resistance and the body’s center of gravity are the closest to one another to produce the greatest forces. The nature of moving heavy loads of weight in a compound manner does produce the greatest neuromuscular contractions .

👉However, are these gains going to directly carryover to a dynamic sports and everyday life activities? The answer to this is twofold. If barbell exercises are over used and over relied upon they can and will produce negative results. Here’s why.

👉Here are 5 reasons traditional barbell exercises can never help a person improve on.

First, all these exercises are performed in a bi lateral and stationary position that only happens on the sagittal plane. Handling forces on a longitude manner. Remember there is no movements like this that are in boxing or combat. Boxing techniques are happening on the transverse plane using multi directional forces.

Second, Barbell exercises don’t train you to loco mote forward and backwards as well as laterally an taking all rotation out of the body ‘s transverse abdominis and oblique slings systems thus limited the gait cycle.

Third, barbell exercises don’t train the core systems in a slinging manner to perform contralateral reciprocation.

Fourth, barbells don’t promote a stretch reflex that IS needed that’s in sports which require balance, agility and timing. To produce more power in martial arts techniques acceleration strength is required in order to generate more force which equals power.

Fifth, if you have any current injuries to your shoulders, spine, hips and knees barbell lifts are the worst exercise to do then. There can be quite a bit of negative effects on the human skeletal-muscular system.

🔥Bench pressing damages the rotor cuff and creates overly tight pecs, thus not allowing the shoulder joint to move as freely.

🔥Squatting compresses the spine and creates instability on the knees overtime.

🔥Dead lifting also compresses the spine and over strains the paraspinal muscles and Quadratus lumborum muscle.

🔥In Olympic lifting the clean and jerk and the snatch are much too dangerous to rely on for promoting more power because of the body needed to perform a level change to lift the barbell overhead. These lifts put the shoulder girdle in an unstable position. Olympic lifting requires much more spped of feeling and thought with using technique and timing then powerlifting does.
