Movement Motivation Monday!!!

One of the less emphasized benefits of exercise is the influence it has to our mitochondria. Mitochondria are located inside the cell and are the central regulators of cellular metabolism.. the powerhouse of the cell. Exercise helps to “enhance” their integrity, efficiency, and dynamic adaptations to stressors. (Burtscher, 2021).

Mitochondria and cardiovascular fitness are heavily interconnected. Not surprising then that your cardiovascular fitness is also an integral determinant of antiviral host defense and your vulnerability to infection. Yes, your fitness level has a direct impact on your immune function and should be a priority in your daily routine to keep your immune system ready to fight for you.

Moderate level activity (at or below 60-minutes) has been shown to increase immunosurveillance of specialized immune cells and reduce inflammation.

Too much high intensity activity (greater than 60-minutes REGULARLY) can increase oxidative stress, transiently reducing immune function, and elevate inflammatory markers.

This week, strive for daily activity. Variety is key. Short bursts of higher intensity mixed in throughout the week with DAILY moderate intensity activity (@ or < 60-minutes) is one of the many ways you can keep that #immunesystem working for you!

New research from the University of East Angila found kids who eat a better diet loaded with fruits and vegetables have better mental health.

This is the first research article to investigate the association between fruit and vegetable intakes, breakfast and lunch choices, and mental well-being in UK school children.

How much do your kids need to be eating? More than they probably are. 😉 The research suggested that kids who eat 5 or more servings a day had the highest mental well-being scores.

In a world that wants to quickly diagnosis, medicate, and treat, let’s step back and take a look at the environment in which they are living. Are you providing the primary daily building blocks AKA REAL FOOD that allow your child’s brain and body the resources they need to flourish?

#insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.. time to rise up and explore the alternatives!

Preventative treatments allow us the opportunity to improve prior to being shut down. Do your knees or shoulder feel a bit “wonky?” There is so much that can be done in the early stages prior to being shut down and medical intervention takes place. You wouldn’t wait to get treatment for a cold/flu until your vitals are so bad you have to be hospitalized.. right?! Orthopedically, your body should be no different. Don’t wait until you can’t use it to get help, allow me to start helping you now!

You just have to show up, as you are, despite all the objections and insecurities of your mind, despite each and every fear that threatens to hold you back, despite the limitations and criticisms others will place on you. Do you have SHINY OBJECT SYNDROME with your health? The tendency to jump into the latest fad or trend because everyone is doing it? Then weeks or months later you jump to the next.. then the next.. then the next.. realizing that you are still where you started, if not worse?

UNIFY HEALTH is a integrated movement and recovery studio located in Ahwatukee at the southeast corner of Chandler blvd and 42nd street. Shauna Brown, owner and operator, is a hands on sports healthcare provider that integrates her background in sports medicine, fitness, and massage to provide unique experiences for her clients. Unify offers both small group (6-person) fitness classes and one-on-one sessions. An initial consult/first session, determines the best plan.
