Here are pics of spring wildflowers blooming now at South Mountain Park...
I am trying to find the correct date for South Mountain Aglow in December. We recently visited the center and picked up a slip of paper that states it is on Sat, Dec 22 but that is a Friday night. We don't want to miss this event.

South Mountain Environmental Education Center (SMEEC) is a 10,000 ft² education and event center located on the north side of South Mountain Park/Preserve.

The South Mountain Environmental Education Center (SMEEC), located in South Mountain Park/Preserve, is facilitated through a partnership between the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department and the Arizona Center for Nature Conservation (ACNC), an Arizona non-profit. The facility is a hub for guests exploring the park/preserve that it calls home as well as a gathering place for the community to learn about plants, animals, natural history and the conservation needs of the Sonoran Desert.

Operating as usual

[03/18/20]   COVID-19 Update:

SMEEC is acting in accordance with this city directive and will be closing until further notice, effective March 18,2020.

The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department has temporarily closed all indoor recreation facilities. Additionally, large gatherings and events on city park property have been canceled or postponed.

City parks and trails remain open for general recreational use.

"Eat Like a Martian" by Tedy Rushton

The average person consumes about 1,000 pounds of food and drink a year. Much of that weight is water.

Space travel means recycling all water (it’s not just pitched overboard – – it’s all reused). So, all food for Mars travellers will be freeze-dried and waterless until mixed with water and cooked – – as for the 2013 test. For example, “instant coffee” is a freeze-dried product; major supermarkets such as Fry’s now stock freeze-dried fruits and veggies.

That bright star just might be a planet! How can you tell? - Will Kalif

"Some stars never twinkle. And this is because they are actually planets. And planets are not pinpoints of light. They have a small amount of width to them. This width makes them immune to turbulence in the atmosphere."
