Do you want to grill up delicious meaty dishes like me? Community Kitchen Pittsburgh just launched its butcher boxes. Community Kitchen is a non-profit in Pittsburgh that teaches people the culinary arts and fights food insecurity. They partnered with Unified Fields to set up a butcher education program to learn how to cut meat. All of the meat is locally raised and ethically farmed. They cut everything in-house. These boxes allow students to practice their butchery skills. Purchasing a Community Kitchen Butcher Box helps support their various programs like job training and placement, and hunger relief. The have 3 different types of boxes and you can learn more about them on their Instagram and website. The Summer Griller Box typically includes a bone in sirloin steak, a t-bone steak, 2 strip steaks, 4 bone-in pork chops and 3 specialty burgers.

The other day, we found butchery apprentice, Riley, breaking down a turkey upstairs. Yes, right upstairs! Thanks to our partnership with Unified Fields, we have our own IN-HOUSE BUTCHERY!🔪🥩 This partnership gives our culinary students the opportunity to learn some butchercraft basics as part of our free 12-week culinary training program, but it also gives YOU the opportunity to purchase locally-sourced cuts directly from us. Our in-house butchery partnership with Unified Fields has been amazing! Butchery skills are important, especially with the demand for butchers, and what they learn from Ben The Butcher (Unified Fields Founder/CEO) and Chris (Butchery Manager) will help them in the future as they seek employment. Here we have Ben explaining to a few students how a grinder actually works. Our meats are locally-sourced and grass-fed, and then cut in-house. We work with a variety of meats, giving our students the opportunity to learn how to break them down. We’ve had our butchery for quite some time and it feels as if it’s a bit of a hidden gem. Our Butchery team has created three BUTCHER BOXES available for you to purchase: Premium Breakfast Box, Summer Griller Box, and Chop House Box. At the same time, CKP prepares and delivers over 400,000 meals a year to food insecure and low income individuals, families, and children throughout Allegheny County.

This week, you can pre-order two new products from Community Kitchen Pittsburgh’s production: Stuffed Pork Chops and Maple Sausage Breakfast Patties. These products are sourced through Harvie partner, Birch Creek Farmery, and are cut and prepared in their onsite butchery training program. The training program works with local certified master butcher, Unified Fields, to give trainees butchery skills. Every purchase directly supports their mission work and their trainees!
