Lesson Horse Spotlight!
Meet Jade — a half-Thoroughbred, half-Mustang mare who’s been with us at Coyote Creek Stables for the past three years. She’s known for helping students build confidence while learning the basics.

Jade typically does one lesson a day and enjoys plenty of downtime in her stall and out in the pasture. She loves belly scratches, leans into the curry comb during grooming, and never turns down a good nap. Her itchy tummy keeps everyone busy — and she’s not shy about letting you know when she wants attention.

When it comes to treats, carrots are her favorite. And somehow, she’s often the cleanest horse in the barn — even after a muddy Texas downpour.

Jade may have her quirks, but they’re part of what makes her such a special part of our program.

Lesson Horse Spotlight:

Meet Gus, our calm and clever Quarter Horse mix who's become a barn favorite for building confidence in riders of all ages.

He works just a few lessons a week — always followed by a bath and plenty of love. He has a special talent for knowing when someone’s had a rough day — and has a gentle personality to facilitate a therapeutic outlet for riders.

When he’s not helping someone gain their riding confidence, you’ll find him napping in a pile of hay, goofing off with his pasture buddies, or playing in the mud.

Gus is more than just a lesson horse —
he’s a teammate, a teacher, and a rider favorite.

Why Do Riding Lessons Cost So Much? Let’s break it down…

Behind every 30- or 60-minute riding lesson is a 24/7 commitment to horse care — and the reality is, horses are expensive to maintain, especially here in the Dallas–Fort Worth area.

Here’s a look at the true MONTHLY costs of caring for just one horse:

🌾 Hay (0.75–1.5 bales/day): $180–$360/month
🥣 Grain & Supplements: $80–$300/month
🛏️ Shavings: $100–$125/month
💧 Water and Electricity
👩‍🌾 Daily Labor
🧰 Supplies & Maintenance: $50/month
🏡 Boarding in DFW: $600–$1,200/month (depending on care level)

➡️$1,300–$1,800+ per month, per horse — before lessons, training, tack, property maintenance, or staff costs are even factored in.

Then there are the YEARLY health expenses:
🐴 Farrier (every 4–6 weeks): $1,200–$2,000/year
💉 Vaccinations & Deworming: $200–$500/year
🦷 Dentistry: $200/year
🧬 Medications, joint care, chiropractic, emergencies: $500–$1,200+/year

➡️ Total yearly cost per horse: $2,500–$6,400+, and often more if specialized care or emergencies are needed.

So when you sign up for lessons, you’re not just paying for time in the saddle —
you're helping support:
✅ 24/7 horse care
✅ Expert staff
✅ Safe, well-maintained facilities
✅ The long-term health and happiness of the incredible animals we ride

We’re passionate about making horses accessible while still delivering excellent care — thank you for supporting lesson barns and the work we do! 🐎❤️
