Sometimes customers bring us puzzles.

They’re just usually not as expensive as this one.

This beautiful **es showed up with a broken stock after apparently taking a trip out of a deer blind. And unfortunately, this is already stock number two.

The good news? This one is fixable.

We’ll mend the break, reinforce the wrist with a rod and Acraglas, and get it stronger than it was before.

We can’t fix everything. But this one? No problem.

Some of y’all are the reason surplus ri**es keep getting harder to find.

We were just talking about how expensive old military surplus guns have gotten, and part of the problem is pretty simple:

People keep buying perfectly serviceable pieces of history… and then Bubba the s**t outta them.

Cut the stock. Drill it for a scope. Throw some tactical furniture on it. Suddenly a r***e that survived 70+ years looks like Grandpa’s deer r***e had a midlife crisis.

Look, back in the ’50s and ’60s? We get it. Surplus ri**es were cheap, hunting ri**es weren’t, and people used what they had.

Today?

You can buy a modern r***e for a few hundred bucks that already does everything you’re trying to make that old warhorse do.

So maybe leave the hacksaw in the toolbox.

Hopefully you never have to deal with something like this, but house fires can do a number on fi****ms.

And a lot of the time, it isn’t just the fire itself. Water from putting the fire out, moisture, debris, and then letting everything sit for a few weeks can create a whole different level of damage.

These came to us after sitting under what was left of a ceiling for about three or four weeks. Some of them we should be able to bring back. A little C**t .25 in the group may be a different story.

Not everything can be made like new again, but you’d be surprised what we can sometimes save.

If you ever end up with fi****ms damaged by fire, water, rust, or just years of neglect, bring them by the shop and let us take a look.

We had a client bring this Savage r***e into the shop after trying to clean it at home.

The cleaner they used ended up stripping the bluing right off the barrel and took it all the way down to bare metal.

That’s a pretty rough way to find out that not every cleaner is safe for every fi***rm or finish.

If you’re ever unsure about what to use, just bring it by the shop and ask us. We’d much rather help you out before something like this happens.

“Shotguns don’t miss.”

Yeah, about that…

There’s a reason we hear this one all the time. Somewhere along the way, people started believing that a sh***un throws out a giant cloud of pellets and anything in front of it is automatically getting hit.

That’s not how it works.

At close distances, your shot pattern can be a whole lot tighter than you think. Choke selection, am******on, distance, and your ability to aim all play a role in where those pellets end up.

A sh***un isn't a substitute for proper aim, and a wider pattern doesn't excuse poor shooting.

Know your sh***un. Pattern it. Practice with it. And stop believing everything you've heard online.

Unload it before you bring it in!

Every fi***rm that comes through the door gets checked. The “This gun is unloaded” jar is there for a reason. We take safety seriously.

Loaded guns create unnecessary risks for everyone in the shop. Clear it. Double-check it. Then hand it over.

Simple step. Non-negotiable.

Revolver or semi-auto?

Neither one is automatically better. They just solve different problems.

Revolvers are simple. Fewer moving parts. They tend to keep working even when neglected. Capacity is limited and reloads are slower.

Semi-autos give you more rounds and faster follow-up shots. They also demand more attention. Cleaning, lubrication, and ammo that actually runs reliably in that specific gun.

Pick the one that fits how you actually shoot and carry. Don’t pick based on what the internet argues about this week.

Not every cleaner is safe for your fi***rm.

We’ve had a Sig Sauer P238 with severe frame damage caused by the wrong chemical. What started as “just cleaning” ended up eating into the aluminum.

Household solvents, random degreasers, and unapproved cleaners can destroy finishes, soften polymers, and attack metal over time.

Use products made for fi****ms. Or better yet, let us handle it the right way.

We offer ultrasonic cleaning that gets deep into the parts without risking damage from the wrong chemicals.

Bring it in. We’ll take care of it properly.

Too much oil is just as bad as not enough.

A light film is all most guns need. Flooding the action doesn’t protect it better — it collects dirt, carbon, and grit that turns into sludge.

That buildup slows parts, causes malfunctions, and creates more problems than a dry gun ever would.

Clean it. L**e it lightly where it needs it. Wipe the excess.
More is not better.
